Chapter 1

The department of mysteries was quiet, the atrium was deserted, and the chains in old courtroom ten rattled alone.

In the depths of the experimental spells room, a lone unspeakable sifted through stacks of scrawled notes and muttered to himself, "the Potter boy is starting Hogwarts this year, if the spell is to be used it must be used now…" He trailed off and took a deep breath, pulling together his nerve, then pulled a much-abused piece of parchment out from under the pile on the table.

"Invoco scientia et potestatis trans mundos!," he cried, and the room filled with golden light. He looked at the almost liquid coils of light around him and gave a triumphant laugh before collapsing as the light swirled around as if searching for something before disappearing from the room and leaving behind no trace of its existence except for the body on the floor.

Three days later the same light deposited two girls in a small side road off of Diagon Alley. The dying light stayed only long enough to cushion their fall before disappearing altogether.

Sam Chessioer groaned aloud as she slowly pulled herself back into wakefulness. The hard ground beneath her, as well as the noise from nearby alerted her to the fact that she wasn't in her own bed, getting ready to start the new school year.

Bolting upright she twisted her torso in a downward motion, and spotted her younger sister Rachel lying next to her looking younger than she had the night before. Sam put Rachel's apparent age out of her mind and glanced around quickly without registering any more than the fact that they were outside in an alley somewhere before shaking Rachel and pulling her into a sitting position, shouting shrilly into her sister's face as she pulled.

"Where the hell are we and why do you look so tiny!"

Rachel shook out her long hair, took a careful look around the alley and froze, staring at the mouth of the alley at the street outside and breathing quickly and shallowly.

"What the hell are you hyperventilating for?" Sam asked impatiently. "I need you to help me figure out where we are. Hellllo?... Are you listening to me? I kind of need your attention here! Yoo hoo, yoo hoo, brat, shortie… WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU LOOKING AT!"

Reaching upward, Rachel grasped her sisters' shoulders and spun her around firmly while Sam struggled in her grip.

" DON'T TOUCH- oh , oh that's what your looking at. Olllivander's, well….ughh….that's… different…" Sam said slowly with a poleaxed expression, blinking rapidly as though she wasn't sure what she was seeing could possibly be real.

"You- you see that too right?" Rachel asked dazedly as finally got her breathing under control, " Cause-cause, you see, this is a, recurring dream of mine." She giggled uncomfortably. " We're-we're we're in-in HARRY POTTER'S WORld… and-and there-there THERE HE IS!" she shrieked one last time before collapsing backwards into a dead faint on Sam's shoulder.

Sam poked her for a second before deciding that she wasn't going to move anytime soon so she shook her head and picked her sister up awkwardly, noting when she was mostly upright that her full height was a lot less than it had been yesterday, but filing it away as something to worry about when she didn't have an unconscious sister and no idea what to do next.

She turned her head back towards the main street in an attempt to spot whatever had made Rachel keel over and spotted a small black haired bespectacled boy accompanied by a large and rather hairy man making their way down the road and toward the small dingy form of the Leaky Cauldron with the calm acceptance of complete shock.

"Okay", Sam said quietly as she sat abruptly back down on the cobblestones with her sister sprawled in her lap, "This is happening, apparently, now what?"

She sat on the ground quietly for a minute before stiffening abruptly as she was suddenly struck with an excellent idea.

"Rachel!" she called excitedly, shaking her sister violently as her head flopped back and forth sharply, " Rachel, wake up, wake up, wake up, wake up, GET THE HECK UP OR SO HELP ME GOD I WILL LEAVE YOU HERE!" she screamed, eliciting a slight reaction from the other girl.

"Whaaat….?" Rachel groaned sleepily, "Oh wait no, leave me alone! I have to go back to sleep, go away, I was going to go to Gringotts, and the Leaky Cauldron, and…."

Sam cut her sister off quickly before she could really get into her stride with a curt, "that's where we're going, so get moving."

Rachel sprung to her feet and paused to straighten her hair and clothes carefully in the display window of Ollivanders. Once she finished making sure that she looked fairly normal she lifted her hand to her head, as if to slick back her hair, and lashed out, as quickly as a striking snake, with all her might at Sam's face.

"That'sfor the rude awakening." She said smugly as she skipped forward and started singing brightly.

"Harry Potter Girls, we're just witches, broomsticks, wands, we bought it right here!"Rachel sang to the tune of California Girls, while Sam grimaced through her fingers at the newly doubled pain in her head.

"Stop that! You're giving me a headache with that crap you call music and my head hurts enough already!"

Rachel reluctantly stopped singing and grabbed Sam's wrist tightly, tugging her along as Sam trailed obediently behind her, for up ahead was a possible way to figure out what the fuck had happened to the two of them. Sam also took note of the damp palm clamped around her arm and reminded herself to keep an eye on Rachel, neither of them could possibly be taking this as well as they were pretending but they didn't have time for panic yet.

"Ooo, ooo, look! It's RIGHT there! Gringotts!" Rachel squealed excitedly, jolting Sam out of her darkening thoughts. I swear she does that on purpose, Sam mused before shaking off her mood to look at the building looming in front of them.

"Rachel, think about everything that happened there! I mean that part in the 7th book! Eeeeh" Sam said in a high awed voice as they stared up at the bank. Using every bit of self restraint they possessed the girls tore themselves away from the completely impossible sight and trudged on past Gringotts, until they reached the Leaky Cauldron.

Reaching her arm out Rachel pushed open the door and held it open as her sister went inside, looking at the alleyway as if to imprint it on her memories forever, then she turned and slid through the door herself, barely getting fully around it before the door slammed shut behind her.
