I am outsideAnd I've been waiting for the sun
With my wide eyes I've seen worlds that don't belong
My mouth is dry with words I cannot verbalize
Tell me why we live like this
Rosalie Hale sat on the bank of the river, breaking the surface of the clear water with her gentle fingertips. She watched as the water flowed carelessly over the rocks and moss.
She looked up at the moon. Illuminating the night with its heavenly beauty. And the stars, twinkling around it in an everlasting ballet. A ballet to which, Rosalie thought, the music could not be heard. Not even to her.
The river that flowed beside her, the stars and moon that shined above her, the grass she sat upon. They all were similar, they were all unbroken. Unlike Rosalie.
Rosalie had seen nights like this before. In fact, the night she was changed was not so unlike this one. But this night surpassed that one, Rosalie thought, no matter how upset and in denial she felt as of now, this night surpassed that one.
Keep me safe inside
Your arms like towers Tower over me
Yeah Cause we are broken What must we do to restore
Our innocence And oh, the promise we adored
Give us life again cause we just wanna be whole
She was broken. They were all broken. Every single one of them. They were shattered shells of their former selves. Covering the mess with a mask. Although, Rosalie seemed to always be the one to remember it. How could she not? After all that had happened to her. How could she forget?
How could her siblings go on so happily after all that had happened to them as well? How could they just let it simmer under their surfaces? Yet, she knew. They no longer held that grudge as Rosalie did.
There was no anger anymore. Only cold empty shells of their former selves. As much as the tried to deny it and convince themselves that they were happy. They weren't. They were broken. Every single one of them.
Lock the doors Cause I like to capture this voice
it came to me tonight So everyone will have a choice
And under red lightsI'll show myself it wasn't forged
A voice. Rosalie used to hear a voice. Back when blood coursed through her veins and New York was still the greatest place in the world. It told her she could fly, it told her all her dreams would come true, it told her she could do anything.
That voice didn't speak to her anymore. It stopped a long time ago. Why should it? There was no hope anymore. No matter how bright things were, no matter how happy she was. Underneath it all, there was no hope. She needed that voice.
We're at war We live like this
Their thirst of course, would always command them. Rosalie knew that every human she passed was in grave danger. Rosalie knew that she was in grave danger. She could lose control. And she would never forgive herself.
Keep me safe inside Your arms like towers Tower over me
Cause we are broken What must we do to restore
Our innocenceAnd oh, the promise we adored
Give us life again cause we just wanna be whole
They would fight this ongoing battle until the end of eternity. They could never be whole again. Never. To Rosalie, it was impossible. She knew, under their masks, her family knew it to be impossible as well.
Tower over me
Tower over me
And I'll take the truth at any cost
Cause we are broken
What must we do to restore Our innocence
And oh, the promise we adored
Give us life again cause we just wanna be whole
They were all broken, empty, shattered shells of what they used to be. Covering the negativity with a mask. They were all broken, every single one of them. And they would never be whole.
