Fallen
I've
gotta keep going, keep pushing. Not too
much farther now. The rains beating
down into my face, my scrunched up features trying desperately hard to see
through the dense mesh of clinging branches and the blood pouring from my
face. The branches whip my already
beaten and bruised face. They whip the
deep gash running across my forehead. I
try not to cry out but the pain is almost unbearable already.
They're
closer now. They clump between the
thick tree trunks, manoeuvring agilely between the trunks, seemingly impossible
by the metal plates they bear across their chests. They shout abuse at me but I keep going limping heavily on my
broken ankle. I've gotta keep going,
keep pushing. My legs are tired. They feel like the have two dead weights
strapped to my flimsy ankles. My lungs
refuse to take in enough oxygen, I've got to stop.
I
dodge left throwing my weight against the tree. The posse barge past, oblivious to them now chasing no-one. I squeeze my eyes shut and gasp for the
air. I'm breathing too heavily, too
loudly. They'll hear me when they come
back. A crack of thunder whips through
the air as the lightning illuminates the woods. The Gate's not far now. I
fumble around in my pockets for the slender metal object. Its battered but it'll work.
I hear
their shouting again. I try to get up
but my ribs ache, at least three broken.
I try to block out the pain, focus on getting home. I launch off the stump, moving between the
trunks. I crack of a staff weapon
echoed out, destroying the tree just a yard away. Shards of wood fly every where and I'm dazed for a second. I risk taking a look behind me. There nearly on top of me. I dig my heals in and burst into the
clearing.
The
Gate stands proud atop a small hill, the DHD maybe forty-five feet in front. I
smack down the seven symbols before blasting open the gate with the red sphere
resting in the middle. I punch in ten
digits with a beep on the battered metal object and start my final journey to
the Stargate. Pain runs up my legs and
across my back but I keep going.
Explosions rain out besides my feet,
Their shots were getting better, I push harder. I pound up the stairs and step just as
another crack flies through the sky. A
searing pain jolts my body the final few steps, the pain accumulating just
between my shoulder blades.
I
fall I keep falling. And then I land.
I
smack into the metal ramp face first, sirens blaring wildly around me. I try and hang on but I can't. I hear three voices calling me. They storm up to were I lie as I prise open
my body. A young man, his sky blue eyes
staring at mine. His face is cut, a
massive bruise smothered most of his right cheek. He keeps calling me his
voice shaky, scared. I try and
reply but another voice. A strong female
voice calls out to me. I twist to gaze
at her cradling her broken left arm, a deep cut running across her temple. Her right arm wrapped tightly around her
ribs. A deeper male voice yells at me
now, his face beaten but in better shape than the others.
I
take my final breathe in this world, happy to know they all got back. They may have taken me from this world but
another System Lord has fallen. They
keep calling me, but I've gone now. I've
fallen out of this world…
