This is actually a revised edition of my story, considering how unpopular my first chapter was (haha...wait, why am I crying?). So in order to at least appeal to the later drama of this story, note that this overused beginning is supposed to happen. I guess I'll start with a dramatic tone. And the title is still a terrible play on words. If you don't get it, search Pomp and Circumstance (also known as the most overused graduation theme to date).
Keima shuddered as he tiptoed on the bridge. It was actually chilly that night, and he felt the wind cut right through his hastily thrown on clothes. But no matter, as it wasn't as if he needed clothes later. Or warmth.
The empty street was a nice thing though. He obviously didn't want anyone to come along.
But his head really hurt..that was becoming a real problem now. His careless thoughts came to a standstill as he thought back to her.
Elsi...was dead, wasn't she.
He chuckled without humor. Question was, why wasn't he dead?
He rubbed his smooth neck, devoid of any pact that forced him to capture girls. And save their souls. For all those times he lamented the very existence of that collar, he now wished for the familiar bind on his neck to return.
Return and kill him.
Rubbing his shoulders to stop his chattering teeth, he looks over to the murky water covered by midnight's shadow.
Huh. He certainly should be. Dead, that is. Really, though, it was about time.
Carefully stepping up on the side of the bridge, his suddenly experienced a new wave of freezing cold, even though there was only a small breeze. He was given a view of the wide waters below him, churning past the bridge's footholds.
Heh. The water sure looked cold. Whatever, it should be over soon enough.
Looking up to the clouded moon, he gave one last little grin.
'This is for you, Elsi.'
And with that he jumped off into the river, never to be seen again in that world.
The events that led up to this course of action could only be called "interesting."
A secondary school idol that no one knew personally, yet all are familair with, a benevolent figure who always helps those in need, but refuses love, that would be a good definition of who Miku Tabanashi was. Unfortunately, considering there was already a school idol with Kanon, and the fact that Miku was a grade below Keima and all his classmates, put her a fair distance away from the God of Conquest and the 2-B Pencils. But it seemed that it was only a matter of time before those two met in eachother's way, and conflict.
'Kami-sama!'
As Elsi held the bento of tentacles writhing in every direction, Keima sped off to his shoe locker. Lunch time always needed up like this, and really, he went hungry everyday at this point. But it was at least better than what she had in mind, with the hellish food she had in store.
Anyhow, time to get his spare PFP out...Wait.
A flutter of pink in his locker caught his attention.
Was this...
'Kami-sama! You're so mean...What is that?'
He pulls the contents out, despite being in the public eye, with multiple students witnessing what seemed to be the impossible.
'Huh. Elsi, you're going to have to wait for me in home room today. I'm eating elsewhere.'
She looked to him in confusion.
'What do you mean by that, Kami-sama?'
Stuffing the pink letter in his pocket, he closes his locker after taking his PFP.
'Seems I have someone else who wants to eat with me.'
Ending with that dramatic tone, he quickly left the scene, only to have Elsi soon follow after him.
'Otamega got a lunch date?'
'It's definitely not a guy...that was a pink letter.'
'What the hell? Since when was that otaku even considered? So damn lucky.'
Having already known it was too late, Keima had sown the seeds leading to him being thought of as a blackmailer, but this was unavoidable since everyone there had seen the letter when it first fell out.
'Kami-sama, where will you meet up?'
He fondles the crumpled note in his hands.
'It says to go to the rooftop during lunch, which is right now. I'm still unsure as to who it could be though... '
Stopping at the door leading to their class, she breifly pauses to turn back to Keima.
'Haqua said she was coming over today, but I don't know when.'
'Alright, alright, I'll look out for her. Go on now.'
Walking off, Elsi witnessed the small crowd following Keima.
'Is this okay?'
'Yeah, whatever, but I gotta see who sent that letter. I'll be damned if she's even there.'
'You're saying this could be a prank?'
'What'd you think?'
The boys argue all the way to rooftop exit, to see the one person they didn't expect.
'Holy..'
'Oi, oi, what is this...'
Their disbelief was for good reason, as standing by the stairs, with a bento box, Kanon Nakagawa, the undisputed school idol.
Alright, there's the revised start. Happy with it? No. Decent? (No)
Statement of the day: If you ever think about Keima dating Elsi or Haqua, consider Mari as another factor...she believes both demons to be illegitimate children of hers...so if Keima was ever paired with them, it would doubtless be seen as incest. And don't give me that "explanation." Mari has no reason to know, in the eyes of the New Hell government. So even if she is told, they would probably erase her memories. She's not essential to the capturing of spirits. So why should she know? Thus...Yeah. Answers would be appreciated.
