Don't start to think about it. To try…
Don't try to hate it. Or cry…
Stepping out the door every morning, with no agenda for cruelty, with no plans to
conquer, to kill, to steal… The fox remembered too well those days, so fresh in his
mind… only ten years…
"Shuu-chan! Are you leaving?" a woman's voice – one he heard every day now- echoed from within the house. He paused, he didn't know if he should reply. It scared him… every time he spoke to her… it seemed that he lost a bit of himself …
"Honey?"
oh damn….
"Y-yeah mom… I'm… going to the library."
"Okay, be careful!" He could imagine the smile on her face…
Mom. He had never called anyone 'mom' before. The mother of Youko Kurama had died giving him birth, as the ways of their people dictated. For a Kitsune to be born, first one other must die.
He had been told she had been very beautiful.
He somehow doubted that the mysterious, enigmatic mother he had never known could compare to the mother he knew now.
Kurama shook his head and began making his way to the library. It would be his last visit before the move.
He would miss Osaka, the place was like home to him. Nothing like the cold steel of Tokyo, so like the lifeless husk of a dead tree containing naught but insects and rot.
The streets were quiet, the early summer sun baking away the last trails of mist from the lower parts of the city. Kurama thought more about Shiori, his mother. About the inerasable scars on her hands. On the unconditional love she heaped on him on a daily basis. About how much he had hated her for being a human, and then loved her for the same reason.
She had given birth to him.
She had given the most wanted criminal the three worlds have ever seen a second chance of life.
Why?
Why had he chosen her?
His feet took him to the library and back. The day nearly done the time he returned home. Still those thoughts boiled in his head. Still he didn't know why. He opened the door.
"Welcome Home!" had he ever heard anyone say that to him before? Usually it had been "Stay away!!!" He stood still in the foyer.
Why? Why? WHY?
"Shuuichi?" She came out of the kitchen, giving him a worried look. He realized he was shaking. She ran to him, seeing his distress.
"Shuu-chan? What is wrong? Are you hurt?"
Only then did he look into her eyes. He said all he could.
"Why?"
She stared at him, and understood. She smiled, and took him into her arms.
"Hush. It will be all right."
That was all he needed.
Ahhhh, my first fic. Or AHHHGGGHHHH!!!!! MY FIRST FIC!!! RUUUUUN! Your choice. Review it.
A/N: this fic is a one-shot. I may or may not return to this general concept in later fics… I don't know.
Anywho, to clear any confusion… the "why" question is "Why did I pick you? Why do you love me?". Shiori understands her son more than he thinks she does. A mother's love for her child is unconditional, even if that child is a demon.
