Summary My first attempt at a drabble. Hodges thinks about Sara after she has been kidnapped. Spoilers for Season 7 are included so please, you have been warned.

Everyone is running.
Frantic.
Eyes glazed over from lack of sleep, from worry.
Everyone asking what if?
What if Natalie's plan would have been interrupted, changed?
Maybe then the police could have protected Sara.
Maybe Sara would be here, joking with me. With us.
I never thanked her. Thanked her for being concerned about me.
When I answered the cell phone in the layout room, talking to a victim's mother, telling her that her daughter was murdered…I felt my heart breaking, listening to her sobs.
Sara asked me what was wrong.
I wanted to tell her everything, tell her that I finally understood how difficult her job is. How I wish I could be strong as she is.
But, all I could ask was, "you ever do the right thing and still feel guilty about it?"
"It sucks doesn't it?" she answered with a soft smile.
Yes, yes it does.
