Alex and Arizona
How about….
Callie had been in surgery for a few hours, and Alex was no longer needed because Sofia had already been born. So he looked around, looking at all his friends and co-workers working on Callie like their lives depended on it. But he was looking for a face that he couldn't see; Arizona Robbins. He knew Mark was off with the baby, but Arizona was always going to be with Callie; and he was right, she was sitting up in the gallery. He called over to Dr. Webber.
"Dr. Webber, you need me here?" he asked. The chief looked up with questioning eyes. "I think I'm needed elsewhere." Alex motioned to the gallery with his head. The chief shook his head and ascent. Alex started to remove his surgical gown on his way out to the scrub room. He scrubbed out as quickly as possible before heading upstairs to see Arizona. He cautiously opened the door and peaked in, to see if she noticed his absence from the scene below.
Alex knocked quietly on the open door, alerting her to his presence. She looked over, her eyes bloodshot and quickly wiped the stray tears from under her eyes. "Oh, I thought you were down in surgery," she muttered quietly.
"I scrubbed out, I figured they didn't need me as much as you did," he said, moving closer to her and sitting down.
"That's okay, I really don't, I just wanna make sure she's alright," Arizona rambled.
"She will be; she's got the finest doctors working on her right now," he placated. "She will make it through this." They sat in silence for a few minutes. "You know… I am sorry for sleeping with Callie."
"What?" she exclaimed. "Callie is on the operating table, and you bring this up?"
"Well, you looked like you could use some good news," he shrugged.
"What's good about you apologizing?"
"Because I'm giving you a guilt free pass to hit me with that brick now," he teased.
"Oh you," she sighed. "I never would have hit you, you know."
"I kinda figured, but I thought I'd offer, you know, to get your mind off of all that morbid stuff," Alex said, leaning back in the chair. "How about a hug instead?"
"What?"
"You know, when you put your arms around someone else and squeeze," he prompted.
"I know what a hug is," she snapped. "I'm just wondering why the doctor they called 'Evil Spawn' is offering me one."
"Because I'm not really that evil," he said in a hushed voice. "But don't tell anyone." This got her to chuckle a bit. "But people have been hugging Sloan and all, but I don't recall anyone giving you a hug, not even Sloan."
"I don't need one," she mumbled, crossing her arms tightly over her chest.
"Bull shit," Alex called out. "Everyone could use a hug when something like this happens. So I'm gonna hug you, and you're gonna let me just because I'm Alex and you secretly like me."
She smiled a bit at the end of his sentence, but gasped when he threw his arms around her. It was a bit awkward at first, but Alex dared to go the extra step. He maneuvered his arms around her so that he could lift her up and settle her in his lap. She struggled to get free at first, but his arms tightened, and they could both feel her relax. At this point, she let her emotions take over and she started crying. Burying her face in his neck, she let all the tears fall that she hadn't yet since she looked over and saw Callie hanging out of the front of her car. Alex gently rocked her back and forth, finally being the good guy for once. The chief looked up at the gallery, to see if Alex was alright with Arizona. They caught each other gaze and Alex nodded in affirmation that everything was alright. The chief went back to work on Callie, knowing that the blonde surgeon was in good hands.
