Title: No Promises
"I volunteer!" I scream. I'm not close to anyone, so it didn't matter if I died or not.
"Wonderful!" Effie Trinket's voice fluttered through the horrible speakers. Katniss had volunteered for her sister, and I took Katniss' place. She didn't need to die. I would for her. I walked up and smiled at Peeta. His sweet blue eyes smiled back, but also looked dead. Everyone knew he liked Katniss, besides Katniss. His eyes smiled because she was going to live, but died because she wouldn't be able to do this with her.
A few hours later the train arrived. Peeta looked at me as we aboarded it, "Why did you volunteer for Katniss? I'm happy you did and all-"
"I know you are. I just don't have much of a life or people that care for me or anything. If she died, I could save her."
"Oh, I see. Thank you." Peeta smiles. "Why are you so alone?"
"My parents didn't want me and put me at a random door step. Then those people didn't like kids. Then they kind of left me on the street. Then the people that found me couldn't afford to have me, or they would have kept me and brought me to an adoption center. Then I waited until I was fifteen and ranaway. No one wanted me. I left. Just like that. No parents. At school, never had friends."
Peeta was speechless. He could tell my childhood was hell.
When we got to the Capital I rushed to my room. Peeta and I shared a room. I looked through my closet for something nice to change into. I got into a short silky nightgown and walked to my bed. Peeta walked out of one of the bathrooms, relazing I had changed in the room instead. I smiled and climbed in bed.
"You look nice. Night." Peeta smiled and fell asleep. We both did.
