"Who does she think she is?" Sirius ranted to the fellow Marauders. "She's a bloody Gryffindor and she gallivants around with that… Slytherin slimeball Snivellus."

The Marauders were seated in the Great Hall for breakfast, and as he did ever morning, Sirius was complaining about their fellow Gryffindor 4th year, Madison Bautista, and her choice of friends.

"She has a right to be friends with whom ever she wants to Black," piped in Lily Evans, who was sitting next to James Potter. Though she had warmed up to the Marauders in their previous year, she had been friends with Madison since their first, and thus that was where her loyalty lay.

"But, what would she see in Snivelly?" he asked in a disgusted tone. "Especially since there are much better choices for companions in her own house?"

"Like you for example?" Lily asked, raising her eyebrows a fraction, a smile playing on her lips.

"As a matter of fact, yes," Sirius stated, "I'm thrice the man Snivellus could ever be."

"Get over yourself Black," came a voice from behind him, "when are you going to get it through your thick skull that you are NOT Merlin's gift to women?"

"Ah, the lady of the hour," Sirius said grandly, "and her Slytherin slimeball." Severus scowled and his grip tightened on his wand.

"Sod off Black, just because my best friend and your best friend are dating gives you no right to judge my choices for friends. Let's go Sev, I feel like I'm already losing brain cells just talking to him. I'll see you later Lils, James, Remus, Peter." Madison huffed off. Severus gave a curt nod to Lily before following after his friend.

"Look at him, following after her like a little puppy," grumbled Sirius.

"When are you going to take your head out of your ass and admit that you like her?" Remus asked exasperatedly.

"Me? Like Bautista? You must be out of your mind! And look who's talking Mr. I've-never-had-a-girlfriend," Sirius spat.

"You know very well why I've never had a girlfriend," Remus replied in a low voice.

After that, breakfast was a silent affair.

"Sev, I'm sorry," apologized Madison.

"You have nothing to be sorry for," Severus replied. "I should be thanking you actually. You stood up for me. Not many people would do that."

"Nonsense, you're my friend Sev," Madison replied, "I care about you." She put her small hand on his cheek softly.

"I care about you too."

A/N: I know it's short, but it's only a prologue. So what do you think? Love it? Hate it? Should I even continue? Oh, and if anyone would like to beta for me, I'd be forever grateful.
