Nicholas and Alexi brought assault weapons to kill bear in Alaska, hardly the guns of choice to hunt grizzly and black bear...but the duo weren't exactly hunters but rather poachers, and they came not to seek trophies but rather to slaughter. Nicholas and Alexi were not sportsmen but opportunists, and as poachers their practice was both illegal and despicable.

Nicholas stood over the machine-gunned body of a grizzly, its bullet-riddled and mutilated corpse steaming in the frigid Alaskan air. He held in his bloodied fingers the gall bladder that he had hacked from the hapless bear's body, an organ which could be sold in the orient for $64,000. Nicholas' partner Alexi hacked at the bear's paws with a large hunting knife, other parts of the animal which could be sold for supposed medicinal value on the black market. The rest of the magnificent animal would be left to rot, for there was no profit in it. With a few body parts that they could readily transport and market, however, it had been a good day's work.

As the two poachers readied their gear for a swift and stealthy departure, Nicholas was startled to see a triangulated cluster of red dots appear on the chest of his parka. The energy blast which followed was swift and devastating, lifting the poacher off his feet as it ended his life. Startled by the unexpected assault from an invisible enemy, Alexi raised his weapon and began spraying bullets in the general direction of the attack. A disk-like object came from nowhere, embedding itself deeply into the man's neck and terminating his existence.

The alien hunter which de-cloaked was large and powerful looking. He extracted the disc-weapon from the dead man's neck, and a slight hissing sound was heard as seals were broken and a metallic helmet removed. The face of the creature that was revealed was hideous and otherworldly. Mandibular mouthparts extended and flexed as the being plunged powerful taloned fingers into the back of the poacher. The alien roared in triumph as it tore asunder the head and spinal column of the man once called Alexi, holding the bloody trophy aloft. The eerie and terrible sound reverberated in the frigid Alaskan air.

Wolves watched warily from a safe and sheltered distance, aware instinctually that an apex predator was in their midst...
