Summary: A completely stupid thing that popped into my head about how Harry could have dealt with the first task of the Tri-Wizard Tournament.
A/N: Anyone or thing you recognize I most likely stole just so I could play with them.
The First Task
"Hay Hermione, How many cows do you think it would take to sate a dragon?" Harry asked when he found his friend in the library.
"Cows? Dragon? Honestly Harry. What are you talking about?" she asked even as she stood to retrieve the proper book to answer his question.
Harry shrugged, he had this insane idea as to how to deal with the first task although he was unsure if he was supposed to talk about it with anyone. Even if Moody had tried and they had discussed his trying to out-fly the dragon. "Let's call it mostly hypothetical at this point."
She handed him a book, that he recognized as the one Hagrid had checked out to aid in hatching Norbert. It unfortunately didn't have the exact number as it depended on the age and species of dragon in question.
On the day of the task though, Harry was prepared. He strode confidently into the arena and transfigured a small dinner bell from one of the many rocks laying about. Each time he rang the bell, Dobby would transport one of the freshly butchered cows Harry had ordered into the arena on a huge silver platter. Each platter appeared approximately twenty feet farther from the nest. By the time the Horntail had devoured her thirteenth cow carcass she was on the other side of the arena and Harry was picking up the golden egg. He rang the little bell twice more as he walked out and was as satisfied as the dragon when she collapsed into a deep sleep using the last, still half full, platter as a pillow.
Harry smiled at Hermione as he was awarded high marks for being the only champion to not be injured. However points were deducted for the almost twenty minutes more than the next shortest time it took.
Not to mention dragon handlers were not entirely happy with him as they would later have to deal with the poor thing's indigestion as well as her salivating and expecting a treat every time she heard a bell.
The End
