When Tyler get pushed aside by his older sister and doesn't know why, it takes Lily to clear things up.
Lindsey - 8 years old
Tyler - 5 years old.
"Come on Lindsey, please!" Tyler squeaked as he followed his sister around the house begging to help her. He kept looking at the list his sister held in her hand as she collected supplies for her first overnight camping trip with her friends from temple.
"For the last time, no Tyler!" Lindsey yelled, getting quite annoyed with her younger brother. Lindsey couldn't wait to go with her friends to Red Moss. The camping center was out in the open country outside Cerulean City. It would be nice to get away from the big noisy city.
With this, Tyler stomped out of the house and into the front yard. Finding his mother weeding the flowerbed, Tyler sat down and started to pull out some dandelions. Unfortunately, he only had enough strentgh to pull the flower and about an inch the the stem off.
With one large ounce of strength, Tyler started to see the root of the one he was pulling start to come out of the ground. Lily giggled as the boy toppled onto his back with a whole flower and root in his hand. "I did it mommy!" Tyler said as he sat back up and triumphantly held the flower with root intact in front of his mother.
"Yes you did, buddy." Lily said as she effortlessly dug up. But something was wrong. Tyler never liked weeding the garden. "What's wrong Tyler? You're not one to help in the garden." Tyler sighed. He had been caught.
"Why are girls so mean, especially sisters? They're so bossy and never share their snacks. And even when you're trying to help them, they're still mean." Tyler said, in the voice his father used when he was complaining about the Pokemon League.
Looking puzzled, Lily put her trowel aside and looked at her son. "Um, you're going have to be a little more specific dear." Lily said as she stood up and lifted the boy and brought him to the porch.
"Lindsey won't let me help her pack for camp. Mommy, why doesn't she want me around?" Tyler asked as he nuzzled his head against his mother, laying down on the porch swing with his head resting on his mother's knees.
"Aw, Tyler. Lindsey, she's just excited. That's all. It's not that she doesn't want you to help, it's that she doesn't want anyone to help. She's really excited about camp and wants to prove she can be self-sufficient." Lily explained as Tyler sat back up.
"Self-whatit?" Tyler asked in a confused tone.
"Self-sufficient. It means she wants to be able to do things on her own. Like, remember when daddy had to help you get up on the swing."
"Yeah. But I'm a big boy! I can do it myself."
"Yes you can. It's the same thing with Lindsey. She wants to be able to pack and go to camp just like a big girl. It's not you, she loves you."
"I love her too mommy."
"Aw, I know you do buddy. Now, let's go inside and get washed up for lunch. Because then, we have to drop your sister off at temple."
"Ok mommy. Can I go to camp too?"
"Not yet buddy. I'd miss you too much. When you're eight you can go on the camping trip too."
"Yay!" Tyler squealed as he and Lily went inside to get ready for lunch.
