I DON'T OWN ANY OF THE GREEK MYTHS
As Denny Connors observed the campus art show that he had put on at UCLA, he was getting very morose. No one was buying his work and even more people were criticizing every single one of his paintings. Denny was a handsome boy with short brown hair and smooth skin.
"What in the Hell is this supposed to be?" One person asked as Denny walked up to him. The painting was supposed to be of a naked lady, but Denny was trying to be avant-grade with it.
"I call it, Blue Naked Lady." Denny replied.
"More like blue naked shit on a shingle." The guy said as he laughed and walked away. Denny sighed as he walked out of his loft. He exited his apartment building and sat on the sidewalk to smoke a joint. As he lit up, he was approached by his best friend: Mark Bates. Mark was taller than Denny and had a blondish beard.
"Hi Denny." Mark said as he sat down next to him.
"Hey Mark." Denny replied as he passed the joint so they could take turns.
"So, how's the art gala doing?" Mark asked.
"Fucking terrible. No one appreciates my art, man." Denny complained. "I put my heart and my soul into my paintings and all these losers do is criticize, criticize, criticize."
"I tell ya Denny, everybody's a fucking critic." Mark agreed. Denny laughed as they got high.
"So, did you just come to get high with me or what?"
"Nah, I need to talk to you. You remember that guy I hang out with from my intro to theater class?"
"You mean Johnny Daae?" Denny asked. "Is he still a nut?"
"He ain't a nut, he's just...eccentric." Mark replied. "Anyway, he's making a movie and he signed me on to be the lead actor."
"That's great news, but why does this have to do with me?" Denny inquired.
"I talked to Johnny and he wants you to be part of the film." Mark said excitedly.
"Why?" Denny asked in wonder.
"Because you're minoring in theater."
"Yeah, but i'm majoring in art."
"Come on Denny, it'll be a great experience." Mark argued. "Besides, do you have any better to do over the summer?" Denny had to admit that he didn't.
"Fine, i'll Do it." Denny relented. "But you owe me big Mark."
"All right Denny boy!" Mark said as he gave him a bro hug.
"So, where are we shooting?" Denny asked.
"Greece." Mark said ecstatically.
"Greece?" Denny asked in amazement.
"Yeah, Johnny found an island just off the coast, the locals say that it was the island of Ogygia, a place where heroes would become stranded." Denny had studied Greek Mythology in high school and he had always been fascinated by it.
"All right." Denny replied as he shook hands with Mark. "I'm in."
