I stood there waiting for someone to notice me. Of course, who would stop for a plain girl standing in the rain? I didn't even know why I was doing this, only to just run away from the horrors in my mind. I didn't think anyone would give me a second glance on the highway.
I sighed as I decided to keep on walking up the highway. I really wanted a ride, but I couldn't blame the people driving. Who would ask a young girl with brown hair and brown eyes in jeans and bright pink T-shirt to hop in their car? They probably think I was up to no good. Actually, everyone even back in Phoenix thought that of me. Let just say people say me as the studious nerd geek girl who decided not wear clothes that would want to grab boys' attention. No, everyone thought as me as nobody.
I fought back the tears, as the storm was raging on above me. I didn't know what to do. Did I expect myself to jump in with even a truck driver, who would probably expect something in return for the trip? I didn't want to become a slut. That thought erased any hopes of hitching ride with anyone. I shifted my backpack as I continued my journey. It was dark, past ten at night. I knew I shouldn't even be on the streets. If my other knew what I was doing, she would be terrified.
Suddenly, a bright set of lights flashed at me. Thinking it was a police car or someone I knew, I started to run. I could hear the car racing behind, the soft purr of the engine. I was terrified as my mind screamed at me "RUN!" Then the sound stopped as if the car turned off. I looked back to see what was happening, and I saw shiny silver car. The driver's door started to open, and I knew I had to make space between me and the car. It was good that I already had a head start. Thunder shook the ground as I suddenly felt myself falling to the ground. I realized then I was crushed to floor with leaves and twigs digging in my shirt and jeans. I cursed to myself for not having a jacket and for not running fast enough. I knew having this balance problem was bad.
I grasped the feeling that someone was pressed to my back. I thought it was a man, an especially muscular one, if I was not mistaken. Then again, how would I know?? I didn't have any experience in that department. My clothes were soaked, by the time; I felt some movement move above me. I finally grasped the fact that I could get up. As I started to lift myself up, a hand shot out for me to take. A honey-riched voice like velvet almost said, "Hello." I nearly fainted.
