Hugo paced the floor of his small room on the top of the Burrow angrily. Somehow it was Hugo who had gotten in trouble for arguing with his older cousins, even though all of them had started it. Everybody knew that if all of the Weasley-Potters got together in one house, there was bound to be arguing, but the Burrow was the most central place for everyone to meet up and prepare for their family trip to France, to spend the entire Christmas with the Delacour family.
Giving up on his pacing, Hugo sighed and laid down on the small cot that he had. He had the entire top floor to himself, being the only one brave enough to venture into the attic after the ghoul left.
"I wish my entire family would just disappear," he muttered before rolling over, yawning, and going to sleep.
The next morning Hugo woke up, not from his mother or grandmother, but from sunlight peeking in through the window. Rubbing his eyes groggily, he pulled on closes, shoved a few last-minute things into his trunk, and went downstairs to nothing. There were no people around, there was none of the regular chaos of the Burrow happening.
Hugo had heard of accidental magic, but could his crazy wish actually have happened? A grin of glee spread out against his face. He was finally alone, without any parents or cousins to annoy him.
He walked into the dining room, and, just for kicks, sat in every chair; he could actually choose where to sit, for once. After that, he went outside, to the broom cupboard, and took out all of the brooms and flew around for a few minutes on each. He then went back inside and sat on the living room couch, starting to get a little bit bored.
Sure, his cousins annoyed him at times, but they still hung out with him and made his life more interesting than it would be without them.
Hugo was starting to wish that his family was back.
He was about to go back upstairs and take a nap when there was a bang at the door. Someone was there. Trying not to make any noise, Hugo felt around the nearest wall for something—one of his Uncle Harry's extra wands. His uncle had developed a habit of hiding extra wands around the places he was at a lot of the time, just in case something came.
He finally hit a sweet spot on the wall and punched it, probably making more noise than he had to. The wall opened up easily and there was a wand, hidden away there.
Hugo snatched it up and held it at the ready. He only really knew one spell, from his uncle—'expelliarmus'.
Hugo braced himself as there was another noise at the door.
There was one final noise and he heard the door break open. The intruder turned the corner, pointing a wand right at Hugo's face. Hugo let out a squeak of surprise, before shouting:
"Expelliarmus!"
A jet of light shot out of the wand in Hugo's hand and shot the intruder—a dark-haired man with pale eyes—squarely in the face and threw him back, into the wall, where he crashed and landed on the floor, unconscious.
Breathing heavily, Hugo grinned for a second, before there was another sound—someone running into the house. Hugo wielded the wand again, but then quickly lowered it when he saw who it was: his mother.
"Mom," he whispered in shock.
"Hugo," she said, looking at the limp body of the intruder. "I heard a crash and I—"
"I'm okay," he said, walking to her and giving her a hug. "Just glad you didn't actually disappear."
