Rise of the Catwoman

The night was dark and cold. I lay there dead and still as the flakes of snow fell lightly upon me. However I wasn't the only one in sight. The stray cats of the alleys roamed about, their attention seemed to be on me. I could feel them approaching towards by. They weren't afraid-or at least it didn't seem that way. Perhaps it was a curiosity of the corpse that lay among them. They hovered over me, as if doing an examination.

A black cat jumped on my chest, looking me right in the eye. It was a long, lingering stare. Something was happening. It was as if these strays were taking one of their own nine lives and breathing it into me, resurrecting me from death. I could feel my pulse beginning to gain strength. Then…a gush of breath came over me. Suddenly I blinked my eyes and then there was light. Slowly I rose up from the ground. My sight was much clearer now; my hearing was as far as a siren could be heard. I felt aware, I felt different, I felt…better than before. As I headed for home, the cats began to follow along. I didn't mind, I now consider them my friends, my allies. The ones that has granted me a new life.

I decided to go to the back of my apartment. I didn't want anyone to see me, and besides-it felt better to sneak in. Luckily my porch was slightly open. I pushed it back wider and stepped inside, inviting my cat friends in as well. I fed them with bowls of milk; of course knowing they haven't had anything descent, and helping myself to a drink. How invigorating it was. Then I stopped in my tracks, looking down at my counter table. The newspaper from today caught my eye. What was staring back at me is a large photograph of a figure in black.

Batman, Gotham's dark knight. I've been intrigued by him in some way. It quite fascinates me to see a man dressing as a creature of the night in order to fight crime. As for me…there's a few little "crimes" I'd like to do myself. However I need some kind of identity, something with a bang. I quickly walked over to the closet of my bedroom, and opened it, peering at my heavy wardrobe. Frowning, I knew that there was nothing in here that can fit my new self, unless…I pulled out a long leather jacket from the closet, giving a small observation for a moment. I figured that I'll just create my own costume. I got on cutting and sewing away, then adding the finishing touches. The costume was now complete. As I put it on, I realized that it fit like a glove. A slow smile crept upon my lips as I looked through the mirror. The costume was tight fitted, clinging to every curve of my body. The black leather shone beautifully against the dim lighting.

Laughter suddenly broke out in the quiet place, for I know the old Selina would never wear something as bold as this, but now it's different. I took the whip that I also created out of leftover material and swung it around, knocking a few things over in sight, which I was just too happy to care. I have a new life, so it's time I give it a new beginning. Perhaps I might get revenge on those who killed me the first time. And maybe…I might just get a chance of pursuit from the Batman. I couldn't shake off the excitement that crawled up inside of me. I stepped out the place, taking another look at my cat friends. "Behave for me while I'm gone." I winked and leapt out into the night, for a new Selina Kyle is born, and a second vigilante is on the loose.
