Even as Laura's eyes snapped open, she knew that something was wrong. She sat up, pushing aside the covers, ignoring the chill in the air and listening. Just on the edge of her enhanced hearing, she could hear breathing from the other side of the door, as well as the faint click of safety catches being released.

Soldiers! She thought, just as a booted foot kicked open the door and four figures in helmets and body armour rushed in, rifles already aimed at her. However, Laura was already moving, her claws extending with a snikt that was drowned out by the soldier's scream as she stabbed him in the stomach. As he body fell, she shoved him aside, kicking out to catch the second soldier in the neck and he fell, blood pouring from between his fingers. Then, there was the dull thump-thump-thump of gunfire and she felt three bullets rip through her chest. Slumping to the floor, she looked up to see a third soldier advancing towards her with his rifle levelled at her.

'X-23. Put your hands behind your head.' He ordered. 'Surrender or ...arghk!'

His sentence was cut off as Laura swept his legs from under him and plunged her claws into his heart. Scrambling to her feet, ignoring another stab of pain, she cannoned into the last soldier, her claws slicing through the barrel of his weapon. His hand scrabbled for the pistol on his belt and she grabbed his head, twisting with a sharp crack and his body went limp. Dropping the dead man to the floor, she lifted her shirt, grimacing at what she saw.

Three hollow-point rounds. Not good...

Gritting her teeth, she stripped out of the blood-stained t-shirt and struggled into her clothes, grabbing her bag from under the bed as she crossed to the window and wrenched it open.

One story fall. 4 metres. This is going to hurt...
