Okay, I don't own Final Fantasy, never will. But after Zack died I was feeling a little depressed and out popped this! R&R if you feel like it (please) but don't waste your time flaming. It just makes you look like an ass. Constructive criticism is fine though.

Drip. Drop. Drip. Drop.

Cloud closed his eyes as the rain began to delicately fall on his face.

"I'm sorry Zack." Cloud murmured. "If I had been faster, if I had been stronger then maybe it wouldn't have turned out this way."

Cloud had many fond memories of his friend and as the rain continued to fall it also unwittingly drew him deeper and deeper into the past. He remembered the truck ride to Midgar, when Zack had first asked if Cloud considered them friends. He remembered when Zack showed him how to use a sword and told him to never give up his pride.

Tears threatened to leak from Cloud's mako blue eyes as the memories continued to play, finally stopping on the day Zack died.

Cloud was breathing hard as he crawled over to Zack. The rain was falling more heavily now and it was washing some of the blood off the fallen SOLDIER's face, making a large pool around his body as it dripped.

"Zack." Cloud said quietly, his voice hoarse

Zack's face looked pained as he struggled to speak. "On my behalf…"

"On your behalf?" Cloud asked, urging his friend on.

"That's right." Zack took an agonizing pause. "You will." Another pause.

"You will?" Cloud encouraged him to speak again.

Zack seemed to struggle with the word. "Live." He said finally, pulling Cloud to his chest. "You are." Zack said slowly. "The proof that I existed." The SOLDIER's hand went limp. Cloud lifted his head from Zack's chest.

Zack looked at his sword with a bittersweet smile. "My pride and dreams." With a great effort the black haired man presented the sword to Cloud. "I give it all to you."

"Agh!!" Cloud screamed, tears running freely down his face now. "I should have died, not you! Never you!"

A heavy hand settled itself on Cloud's shoulder. "Tisk, tisk." A waiflike voice said with a tinge of amusement. "Always dwelling in the past, aren't we?"

Cloud spun around. "Zack?!"

No one was there. "Remember." The voice said again. "It's not your fault I died, Cloud. You are the proof that I walked this earth. You are my living legacy."

Whacha think? I don't know unless you tell me.
