Dead Air

Marcus Pike couldn't believe it Teresa Lisbon just agreed to be his wife. He was happy no more then just happy over the moon happy.

She was just leaving The Keys when she called and told him the good news.

There was so much to do before she arrived. Make a reservation at what he was sure would be their new favorite restaurant. Get some flowers to bring to the airport and for their hotel room. And one last thing he had to set up the perfect proposal.

He checked his desk drawer to see if the velvet box was still where he left it. Buying the ring had been an impulse, he saw it in the jewelry store window and imagined it on Teresa's finger. She needed no she deserved a real proposal not a quick "will you marry me" in the FBI corridor. Especially with Jane looking on like some kind of timid stalker.

Something about that man unnerved him. Jane has always been polite well that is up until a few days ago when he turned abrupt and dismissive.

Pike couldn't put his finger on it he just felt a change in Jane's attitude, Probably his imagination. It wasn't like he was stepping on toes or crossing boundaries. He had made a point of asking if Teresa was involved with him. Everyone said no she doesn't even call him by his first name for crying out loud. Cho even went so far to say they were like brother and sister.

Only Abbott had made some comments that seemed to the contrary telling him that he should be very careful before he "shakes another man's tree." or something hokey like that. Abbott also made a very pointed note of reminding Pike that Jane had killed a man with his bare hands.

Although he thought Jane was justified in his revenge it kind of scared him to think that his Teresa and yes she was his now, was partnered with man like that for so long. Gave him an involuntary shiver actually.

Oh well enough thought about Patrick Jane in a few short hours Teresa would be away from his influence for good and starting a new life with him.

Pike did wonder why she was coming back early from Florida. Maybe the case wrapped up quicker than she thought it would and couldn't wait to be with him.

That thought made him smile.

After a routine chat with his new boss Marcus came back to his desk to see three missed calls from Lisbon. Eagerly accessing his voice mail he was meet with just the sound of dead air. Next call same thing and the third. It was like she called then what lost the nerve to speak. Must be the connection just need to call her back.

Before he had a chance to complete dialing he heard squeals and giggles from the women of the DC bullpen. They were reading some sort of briefing item.

"Hey ladies, what has you all so excited?"

"Oh Agent Pike it's so romantic."

"Hey I can always use pointers in romance. What happened?"

"This guy posing as FBI just boarded a plane. He was trying to get to the women who was leaving him and tell her he loved her and couldn't live without her. He said he couldn't imagining waking up and knowing he'd never see her again."

Pike swallowed his mouth suddenly dry.

"What happened I mean to the guy?"

"Oh he got taken off the plane by the TSA."

"And the women?"

"She went after him." There was collective sigh heard round the room.

"Where was the plane coming from?'' He asked the questioned but in his heart he knew the answer.

"Somewhere in Florida. Key West I think."

Marcus walked out of that bullpen a less happier men then when he entered. Looking at his phone he now knew the reason for all the dead air. He dialed her number hoping he would get her voice mail. He did.

After a minute of dead air he sighed "Good luck Teresa. Love you."
