Surprises

"Doctor."
"Clara."
"Doctor."
"Clara."
"Doctor."
The Doctor couldn't keep up his serious-face-charade any longer. He laughed and looked away from Clara.
"What?" she cocked her head, in the way that only she could, "Can't handle the pressure?" She pushed his arm, teasing. He smiled, and laughed again. She was always so happy, so ready to go. Go for anything… adventure- a day in- perhaps- He shook his head. "What?" she asked again, this time with a little worry.
"Nothing."
"Oh, come on Doctor! It's never just nothing." She began to circle around him, arms crossed, with an inquisitive look in her eye. She's searching for an answer, he thought. She's always searching for an answer. He gave her a small, sad smile.
"You can't have all the answers to all the questions, you know," he stated.
"But that would require me having all the questions." Stopping in front of him, she cocked her head again. He swallowed nervously as her warm brown eyes stared into his own.
"Well," he started, "That would be an awful lot of questions."
She laughed, and stepped back from him, twirling on her toes. "I'll let you go this time," she mock scolded.
The Doctor reached out and grabbed her hand. So soft… "Alright Miss Oswald. Now, I have a little surprise for you." He led her up the console steps, where he reluctantly dropped her hand. He began pushing buttons and yanking levers as he got the TARDIS going. At the familiar sound of his TARDIS taking off, he turned to smile at Clara, who was suddenly, very, very close.
"I like surprises," she said, and then deftly leaned up and kissed his cheek. Wha- Her lips were soft against his skin, and sent a warmth throughout his whole face, even though they were only there for a fraction of a second. Clara smiled and bit her lip, then walked across the small room, leaving a very startled Doctor in her wake. He turned back to the console as a light blush spread over his cheeks.
