She had had a bad day at work and just wanted to be inside, there hadn't been a case for weeks and the quiet was unsettling. She usually didn't mind some time to complete some Limbo cases but time was dragging every day. Temperance opened the door to the apartment and let herself in, throwing all her stuff into a corner. The apartment was quiet and tranquil. She sank down onto the couch, relaxing into the fabric. She reached to the side, and turned the radio on. It was nearly Christmas and she marvelled about how the holiday consumed all entertainment. Another popular Christmas tune came on, one she had heard many times before.
The cold wind is blowing and the streets are getting dark
I'm writing you a letter and I don't know where to start
The bells will be ringing Saint John the Divine
I get a little lonely everyday around this time
The music plays all night in Little Italy
The lights will be going up on old Rockafella's tree
People window shoppin' on 5th avenue
All I want for Christmas is you
Chorus:
(Tell me) I've got to know
Nobody ought to be alone on Christmas
(Where do lonely hearts go?)
Nobody ought to be alone on Christmas
(Oh) Nobody ought to be alone on Christmas
Things are different since you've been here last
Childhood dreaming is a thing of the past
Maybe you can bring us some hope this year
Visions of sugar plums have disappeared
Do you remember sleigh ridin' in the snow
And dancin' all night to 'Baby, Please Come Home'
Today's celebration is bittersweet
There are mothers and children in the street
Chorus:
(Tell me) I've got to know
Nobody ought to be alone on Christmas
(Where do lonely hearts go?)
Nobody ought to be alone on Christmas
(Oh) Nobody ought to be alone on Christmas
Temperance turned the radio off, unable to stand any more. Tears ran freely down her face. She couldn't explain the emotions coursing through her veins. Her emotions were overriding, they had being doing too much of that lately. She felt overrun and out of control. She wanted her life back, and she didn't want to be weak. It was just a stupid song, which somehow got the better of her. She probably just had her defences down for a minute. She tried to gather herself as she heard someone lightly knock on the door and come in behind her. It was Booth of course; he'll never leave her alone. Not that his presence bothered Temperance.
"Hey, you O.K, Bones?"
"Yeah, I'm fine." She replied, defensively with a short, annoyed tone.
"You sure, you're crying. You never cry, well..."
"Booth, I'm fine. Just leave it." She interrupted, desperate for the conversation to be over.
"Bones, you can tell me anything. What's wrong?"
"You can't help Booth, it's stupid and it's nothing."
"Bones, nothing you ever do or think is stupid. You're my genius."
"Booth leave it."
"O.K, but now you're my wife, I have rights you know."
"Do you have to say that word all the time?"
"What? That you are my wife now?"
"Yes Booth, you know what I mean. You don't have to remind me every 30 seconds."
"Now you're my wife I want to remember it every moment of the day, and I will be using that word many times. Seriously Bones, what's wrong? Don't change the subject."
"It was just a stupid song, it made me sad. There's no logical reason, my emotions just went into overdrive."
"Awww, its O.K Bones. You have a reason now."
"I'm not looking for an excuse."
"Well, you have one Bones. You're pregnant."
"Which is your fault."
" Well..."
"It was Booth, you can't deny it. You put it in there."
"Her Bones. You put her in there."
"Fine, you put her in there."
"But you love me for that, right Bones?"
"Yes Booth. I never thought it'd be like this, but I love you."
"Means more to me every time Bones. And I love you too."
