He was cold, so very cold. And numb… why was he so numb?

Light shined up above, shimmering like a mirage in the desert.
It sparked something inside him… a memory?
Pristine snow covering everything, there was so much of it. School had been canceled
"Hey mom, I'm going skating!"
Skating, he'd gone skating…

The light, it was moving farther away. Or, maybe he was? And that sound, it was slowing. Getting weaker…he was getting weaker.
What had happened next?
Blades sliding over ice, a cold wind slapping at his cheeks and turning them pink. And a shadow that not his own. It was beneath the ice. Something had been swimming beneath the ice.
With sluggish movements, he reached out towards the light.
…Tha-thump…Tha-thump…
If he wanted to live, he had to reach the light.
Ice broke beneath his feet, dropping him into the water's cold embrace. Something circled him as he sank into the dark depths. His mind went dark.
Each sluggish kick sent him closer to the light. He was almost there. He would live!
Pain exploded in his chest as blackness moved to block the light. A malignant creature's yellow eyes were all that broke the darkness. Its gaze unblinking as it watched him.
It watched as he struggled.
…Tha-thump…
And it watched as his heart beat for the last time.
If anyone would have chosen to visit the frozen pond outside of Twilight Town that day, they would have seen a bright and shining heart burst from the pond's icy depths.
They would have been witness to the death of a young boy named Myde, and the birth of his Nobody.
