Goodbye my Love

Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto or any of its characters, as well as "Goodbye my love" by 8Eight, which inspired this story.

A/N

Well, the disclaimer pretty much said what was needed to be said. This story was based on translated lyrics of the Korean song "Goodbye my love" by 8eight.

It was time.

Shikamaru decided it was time to continue forward, and he decided to it in a way that would always remind him of when they were far apart.

By writing a letter.

Hey, how are you?

Are you still as beautiful as before? No, I'm sure you've become closer to an angel now.

I bet you're wondering why I've written this letter. Well, I feel like this is the only way it can be done. It's been a while since we've seen each other, and it's taken me quite a while to realise that the time without you will continue to grow. I have to accept the fact that although you are part of my life, you are no longer in it. I guess being with you just wasn't meant to be. I want this letter to be short without any troublesome rambling. I don't want any more pain then what I already have.

So goodbye my love, I'll let you go now. All our memories, all our times together, I'll make them disappear. Being so far away from you hurts me every time I think about it, knowing I can never hold you in my arms again. Though this feels like it's wrong, It's all I can do.

Please know though, that although I must move on, you will always be in my heart.

I love you,

Goodbye Temari.

A tear fell beside her name, and he wiped it away, before folding up the letter.

He took a long, struggled breath, before heading out the door.

Before delivering the letter, he stopped by Ino's flower shop.

"The usual?" the girl asked him as he entered the door.

Shikamaru just nodded.

Ino walked over to the batch of desert flowers.

"You know, I'm going to run out of these at this rate."

He took the flower and handed her the money. "Don't worry, this will be the last one for a while."

She looked at him curiously, seeing the smallest hint of sadness, one that no one else but herself and Chouji would ever pick up on.

She handed him back his money. "Then it's free, we're friends after all," she said, trying to smile.

Shikamaru nodded in thanks, before walking out.

"Later, woman."

Ino took out a hand to farewell him as he left the shop. She knew he didn't want to discuss it, so she'd do her best to forget about it.

Shikamaru looked down at his feet, holding back tears. He placed the flower down with all the others, filling up the little pot. He placed a hand on the top of the gravestone and allowed a final tear to fall.

He looked up, not to see the clouds, but to try to search behind them.

After a few moments, he placed the letter beside the flowers and looked at the writing on the grave once more:

Temari of the Sand

xxxx-xxxx

Sister, Friend, Fiancé

A strong willed woman, who asked nothing but

that her death would not be mourned

He wouldn't cry, not in front of her grave at least.

When he was ready, Shikamaru got up and walked away.

He looked over his shoulder for the last time, seeing the wind blowing his letter open, as if a heavenly body wanted to see what was written.

"Goodbye Temari."

End.
