As Red as A Rose

Chapter 1

"Clara Volga!"

My name rang out inside the town square as loud as a church bell. It wasn't a surprise really; after all everyone wants to see President Snow get a taste of his own medicine, even if he is dead. I walked up onto the stage calmly and shook hands with the 23 other tributes.

"And those are the tributes for the 76th annual hunger games. Happy hunger games everyone." Nobody clapped. It must be a lot harder to watch kids you know go into the games then strangers.

Soon after, a peacekeeper grabbed me by the arm and shoved me into one of the many waiting rooms where we will be visited by our family before we are sent away. I plopped down onto a plump looking couch and removed a magazine from the nearby bookshelf knowing I would have no visitors. All of them were either locked up in some far away land or murdered by the rebels. Not that I cared.

The front page of the magazine had, like the same title as every other magazine these days. They were usually, "The last and final games" or "The Capitol games" or "Capitol Children". There was even one that was named "The life of Clara Volga". The last was quite amusing actually, two-thirds of it was about how I was secretly sent from hell and the descendent of pure evil and the other third was about how people imagined I would be killed in the games. People can be so judgmental sometimes, just because my grandfather was evil doesn't mean I am. Well, not entirely evil.

Thirty minutes later we were taken on a train that would take us to the middle of the Capitol. It would take approximately a day and a half. Don't even ask why it takes so long, its probably because the stupid rebels couldn't figure out where the fast speed button is and I'm sure as hell not going to tell them.

I was led into the District 12 section of the train. This year the people from the districts chose who they wanted as there representatives after the reaping and of course District 12 got me. What a surprise.
