The Button
Jake wept silently as his finger hovered over the button. They had finally found a way to destroy the Yeerk pool. The only problem was that Cassie had been taken on a mission and was inside.
-Flashback-
Cassie look out! Jake called in thought speak.
It had started out as a simple mission. Get in, free some people, and get out. Cassie was in wolf morph, Jake in tiger, Marco as gorilla, Rachel as grizzly, Tobias as hawk, and Ax as his usual Andalite self.
No one could have known how wrong it would go. Viser three and some Hork-bajir controllers had been waiting for them.
Jake saw Cassie look back. Two Hork-Bajir were almost literally on her tail! Cassie tried to run faster but the Hork-Bajir managed to catch her.
Cassie! Jake cried.
Jake! Save the others! Cassie called weakly.
Jake let out a roar. I'll come back for you Cassie! Then he turned to the others.
As he did he said quietly in private thought speak, I love you Cassie.
Before he left heard a faint, I love you to Jake. I'll be waiting.
-Flashback over-
The resistance had managed to plant a bomb in one of the older Taxxon tunnels, but it was only a matter of time before someone found it and disabled it. Not enough time to get Cassie out of there. With all likelihood they would not get another chance.
Jake bit his lip. As he watched the Yeerk pool from a hidden camera planted by the Chee he noticed a Taxxon moving close to the entrance of the tunnel. Jake whispered "I'm sorry Cassie," and pushed the button.
