My cell phone begins to ring right next to my head. Groaning, I open one eye to peek at the clock.
2 AM? This better be important!
I grab my phone and look at the caller ID. Billie
Huh? I wonder what he wants?
I answer the phone. "Billie?" I ask tiredly.
"Jessie! What's up?" Billie asks excitedly.
"Nothing much, just sleeping here." I say, stifling a yawn.
"What are you sleeping for? It's only 9 PM!"
"Yeah, if you're in New York. I happen to be in London right now."
"Shit, I'm sorry Jessie. Should I call back tomorrow morning?"
"No, no I'm already awake", I reply, sitting up in bed and looking out the window. I have a good view of Big Ben from my bed. It looks nice illuminated in the dark sky.
"Well, you know that Jason decided to take a break from touring in order to get his life back together right?"
"Yeah, I know." Jason White, Green Day's live guitarist, announced only a few weeks ago that he was not going to join the band on tour in order to spend more time with his family. This came as a great blow to fans, who came to love Jason.
"I was wondering if you would take his spot during the tour?"
I practically dropped the phone. "D-did I just hear you correctly? You want me to take Jason's spot?"
Billie chuckled over the line. "Yes, you did. You're perfect for the job! You're talented, you know all of the songs, and your band isn't exactly doing anything right now. Why not get some musical inspiration for the next album by joining us?"
I mulled it over his reasons. My band, Stockholm Syndrome, was taking a break in-between touring and starting the new album. My two other band mates, Zack and Brendon, decided to get married to their fiancées during this time and were planning on spending time with them. I recently broke up with my boyfriend (after I caught him making out with a store attendant in a Prada dressing room) so I had no one to occupy myself with. I was hoping to spend some time traveling to places I can't get to during regular touring, possibly Russia or India.
Then again, you could travel AND perform with the band you've been listening to since you were a baby!
"What if the fans don't like me?" I asked, "You know how much they love Jason!"
"Jessie, are you serious? They're crazy about you! Remember how big you guys got after performing at Glastonbury? I go on Green Day Community sometimes and the fans really enjoy your music. You've got nothing to worry about."
Well, there is no way I can back out of this now.
"Billie Joe Armstrong, you've got yourself a new backup guitarist!"
