villain.
luke
( clichéd misunderstood bad guy )
disclaimer: i don't own.
All Luke Castellan ever wanted was to be the hero. It was all that he was born to be.
But after one measly quest that had been done before and years of waiting, he decided that in order to be the hero… he needed to be the bad guy.
He hated the gods. They didn't care about him or any of their children. Why should he strive to be a hero on their side? That wouldn't be a real hero in the least.
So when Kronos came to him in a dream, he pledged his allegiance to the Titan lord of time. He would be a huge part in destroying Olympus. He would become a hero.
Luke realized that being the hero meant not questioning your master's orders. Even if those orders involved killing friends.
Because when Kronos ordered Luke to kill that son of Poseidon, Percy Jackson, Luke knew it probably meant killing Annabeth too. But he didn't say a word.
Because he was being the hero.
So he convinced Ares to take the bolt and frame Percy. But in case that didn't work, Luke gave Percy the flying shoes… the shoes that would take him straight to Tartarus.
So he gave him the shoes, hoping they would work and praying that Annabeth wouldn't do anything stupid, like sacrifice herself to save Percy or kill herself in the process of saving him.
It was hard watching her go over that hill and not give him a second glance. That's when he knew he had truly lost her.
And she didn't even know he was working for Kronos yet.
While they were on their quest, Kronos ordered Luke to hire a spy in Camp Half-Blood, so they could keep an eye on them. It would help enormously during the war.
So Luke found Silena, a girl from Aphrodite, who he knew would no doubt help him.
He gave her the scythe shaped charm and showed her his matching one. Told her that she was helping the gods. He didn't tell her that she was helping them be destroyed.
She took the job without question, and promised to keep Luke updated on what was happening at Camp if he was ever away.
He didn't tell her that he would be gone very soon. That he was leaving.
To be the hero.
Luke was furious when he got word that the shoes didn't work… and on top of that, Percy returned the bolt to Zeus and the helm to Hades!
This kid was good.
So Luke decided he would just have to kill him himself. He ordered a pit scorpion from Tartarus and planned when to set it on him.
He lured Percy into the woods, asking for a "friendly chat". As soon as they were settled, he called out the scorpion and revealed his plan. Then he left the son of Poseidon to die, knowing surely that this time, he would not survive.
That day he left Camp without a second glance. No one even noticed he was gone. Well, until Percy somehow stumbled out of the woods, scorpion venom coursing through his veins, and spilled the whole thing to Chiron.
Couldn't he just die already?
But the matter of Percy Jackson was very small now, compared to what was to come.
But when Kronos told him his plan, Luke almost protested.
Because Kronos wanted him to poison Thalia's tree.
But Luke was the hero. He didn't say a word. He just took the pint of Gorgon's blood, snuck into camp late at night, and injected it into what used to be his best friend.
He lingered a moment at the tree, watching it start to slowly wilt. He could almost feel the magical border dissolving.
He knew he had sunk low. Lower than he had ever intended. The girl that was inside that tree had saved his life multiple times. And this is how he thanked her.
It was then that he knew. Knew that he was no longer the hero. That was a stupid excuse in the first place.
No. He had been made a villain.
He made himself the villain.
