Disclaimer: I do not own The Big Bang Theory. Only Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady owns it.
Author's Note: This was a somewhat interesting and weird plotline I thought the show had for Leonard and Penny. I know Leonard didn't go through with it to give Zack and Marissa a baby, but this is a fanfic where he did. I was going to write a story about the whole process of it, but thought this might be more interesting with the child all grown up. I think I might switch back and forth to Abby's and Leonard's life until I have the both of them connect and reunite. I hope I don't offend anyone with my lack of knowledge on this subject, but I did do light research about this stuff. I hope you enjoy this story and please leave a review! :)
Abby woke up early in the morning for school. She got herself ready and dressed, and went downstairs to the kitchen for breakfast which was a quick bowl of cereal.
Her parents were rich because of her father, Zack's menu company that hit off, so he went into retirement early. They had a nice house in Irvine, California. They used to live in Pasadena when Abby was younger, they moved when she was around five. Pasadena was almost an hour away from Irvine. Her parents wanted a more family friendly environment for her, and to go to a good school.
Abby's parents were still driving her to school. She wouldn't take the bus. For some reason, her mother, Marissa, didn't like them. Either her father or mother would drive her to school. She was only fifteen, so at sixteen, she would be able to drive herself there.
After she was done eating her cereal, it was her father, Zack, who entered into the kitchen.
"Hey, kiddo. Ready for school?" He asked her.
"Yeah." Abby said, and they went into his car.
Abby wished she could be tall like her father, but she wasn't. She was almost about the same height as her mother. She's about 5'4. She looked more like her than she did to Zack. It was something she observed about herself whenever she reflected on old pictures. But Abby never seriously questioned it. She assumed she just carried the strong genes of her mother.
Abby had long curly brown hair, and dark brown eyes. She was supposed to wear glasses, but she found wearing eye contacts were better. Glasses made her more of a geek if she wore them. Her style of outfits to buy would be from Forever 21, Hot Topic, and Urban Outfitters. Sometimes people would call her a hipster because of how she dressed.
Sometimes Abby would wonder if her parents ever really wanted her at all. As in they may have wanted a boy. Abby never did get anymore siblings. She remembered she asked them about it to have a little brother or sister, and they just said they couldn't. But they never gave her an explanation why.
"Are you okay?" Zack asked her.
"You look like you're in deep thought."
"I'm fine." Abby answered.
"Oh...good," Zack replied with relief. Although he wasn't sure if it really was a good thing. Marissa was better handling girl stuff with their daughter than him. "Thought I lost you there for a second. What were you thinking about?"
"Um...school." She lied.
That was true most of the time. Abby Johnson was mostly known as either a geek or a nerd. She couldn't help it she loved science and math.
"You shouldn't pressure yourself so much. Like your Mom and I always tell you. You should relax and be like the other girls."
Abby gave him a look with a raised eyebrow. "You want me to be like the other girls?"
"Well...not in that way. I meant, you should go out and have fun like them. Not too much fun. I don't want you to get pregnant."
"Dad..." She groaned in embarrassment.
Of course, Abby had friends, but she never had a boyfriend before. She never even had her first kiss yet. She had crushes here and there, but she never made the first move to do anything about. Abby had her own insecurities and doubts.
Who would want to date a nerd anyway?
"I know you don't want to have The Talk with me right now. Your mother is better with that than me."
"I know the basics of...coitus, Dad." She felt that word was easier to say than the other one around him. Despite it was easier, it was still awkward and uncomfortable.
"That's sex, right?" He asked.
"Yes," She mumbled. "Anyway, I know that stuff. I'm not that dumb."
"I know you're not. You get better grades than I did in high school."
"My IQ is a 170." She bragged proudly.
He grinned. "You are extremely smart for your age."
Abby's intelligence was one of the many qualities that her parents had always admired. She got dropped off to her high school, and met up with her friends in the hallway. They were getting their books and notebooks out for their morning classes.
While she was heading her way to Miss. Lambert for homeroom, she accidentally bumped into Brittany Holland, and all of her books that she was holding fell onto the tiled floor. Abby went to pick up her fallen books.
"Oh, look who it is," Brittany Holland said as she looked down at Abby as if she were dirt. Her other snotty friends were around at her side. "It's Addie Johnson."
Brittany Holland was every guy's dream. She's beautiful, tall, athletic, and a cheerleader. Most importantly, she's blonde. She was everything that Abby wasn't, but dreamed to be like her. Except for her unpleasant personality.
The only thing Abby had that Brittany didn't were the brains.
But everyone knew that smart wouldn't be the new sexy.
"It's Abby." She corrected, but Brittany knew what her name really was.
"Oh...right..." Brittany said being aloof.
Brittany's other friends were sniggering behind her.
"Why don't you just get out of our way? You don't want to be late for class as if you should even be here. You already know everything anyway." Brittany remarked, but Abby wondered if she was really jealous of her deep down.
"Yeah, you're such an annoying know-it-all." Nicole was being condescending to Abby.
Finally, the girls walked away. Abby was thankful for that they left. Her mood was lifted when she saw her two best friends, Danielle Wilkes and Meghan Gardner. Danielle was a tall and athletic build black girl who's hair was done in braids. Meghan was a blonde who was a couple of inches taller than Abby.
"Hey," Abby greeted them. She sounded a little depressed after her encounter with Brittany.
"Hey," Danielle and Meghan chimed together.
"What's wrong with you?" Meghan wondered.
"Brittany Holland, that's who." Abby answered.
"Oh, her..." Danielle muttered not sounding surprised.
Not only was Brittany a model, but she was a mean girl. Only her friends, and a few other girls, liked her, but she was really popular.
"Just forget about her," Danielle continued.
"Don't worry about her," Danielle said dismissively.
"She's probably jealous of you because you tutored Connor Lawrence."
Abby had to tutor Connor once because he was ineligible for his science and math class. Brittany knew about the arrangement, and assumed something more was going on between Abby and Connor which there wasn't. Brittany obviously had a crush on Connor back then. Abby thought Connor was stupid and slow, but he managed to get good grades, and was able to play for basketball again. That was surprising, too, because Abby thought he needed a miracle.
"Connor desperately needed help with his grades," Abby said, remembering the event a few months ago. "I'm surprised he's still on the team, and that he's not in the ninth grade."
"That bad, huh?" Meghan deadpanned.
"He didn't know who Sir Isaac Newton was. He thought Fig Newton was named after Isaac Newton." Abby rolled her eyes, and it made Danielle and Meghan chuckle.
"You got to laugh at people's stupidity." Danielle smirked.
"It makes me weep and slowly die on the inside for the future of humanity instead." Abby said.
Both Danielle and Meghan rolled their eyes at her.
"Anyway, you guys should come to my house after school today." Danielle invited them.
"Sure." Meghan accepted.
"I'll have to ask my parents first." Abby said.
"I'm sure they'll say yes. It is a Friday. Thank god..." Danielle muttered the last part.
"I'll text them. Will Kate drive us?"
Kate was Danielle's older eighteen year old sister who's a senior. She had her driver's license. Danielle was the fifth oldest out of six siblings. Abby was jealous of her large family because she used to want a brother or a sister herself. Meghan only had two older brothers plus a three year old Labrador Retriever.
"Yeah, of course." Danielle answered with delight.
The bell rung, and they went into Miss. Lambert's homeroom. It was during lunch when Abby got her iPhone out; her lock screen was a picture of herself with her best friends making goofy faces as they ate their frozen yoghurt. She texted her mother if she could go to Danielle's house after school. Abby let her know that Kate was driving them. Her mother replied that she was okay with it. Abby was excited that she could go to her best friend's house.
"My Mom said I can go." Abby excitedly announced.
"I knew you would." Danielle said.
"Your parents are so cool," Meghan grinned. "And your Dad is pretty hot."
Danielle laughed at that while Abby immediately became disgusted.
"Ugh! Don't ever say that again!"
Her friends laughed even more at her reaction.
After they all had calmed down, Abby confessed. "I wish I have lives like you guys."
Danielle and Meghan exchanged confused looks at each other, and then at her.
"What do you mean?" Danielle wondered.
"I don't know. Just big families. Neither of you are an only child."
"You're the lucky one." She replied quickly, and Meghan nodded in agreement.
"It does get lonesome after a while surprisingly. I feel like I'm different from my parents. From my whole family in fact. Like there's something that doesn't make sense about my life."
"Are you having a midlife crisis or something, Abby?" Meghan asked curiously, but also, with some concern. "Cause you're too young to be having one of those."
"No, it's not a midlife crisis, Meghan," Abby rolled her eyes. "I just feel like a black sheep in my family. I don't look anything like my parents. Maybe a little bit of my Mom, but then I wonder if I'm overthinking it."
"You do have a tendency to do that." Danielle commented.
"Forget it. Neither of you will understand-" Abby gave up.
"What? No. Maybe you're adopted, but that wouldn't make sense." Meghan tried to help her friend put the puzzle pieces together.
She shrugged. "Maybe it's just me. My parents wanted a boy, not a girl. I see it in their faces when they look at me. It's like they don't know what to do with a girl," She sighed when she couldn't think logically. "I don't know what it is..."
