This is just going to be a short one-shot about that part in the 'ready steady go' theme when ed is sitting in the rain with alphonse, and winry reaches out her hand to him.

Sanctuary during the Downpour

How did he end up this way? He did not know. Every time he came close to her, he ended up pushing her even further away. It had been a simple check up and nothing more, but he had to go and tell her. Why did he tell her? Was he insane. Once again he did not know. Maybe he should stop asking himself this many questions. People (including himself) would begin to think he was schizophrenic.

Alphonse had followed him out the door he had burst through, not even asking the reason why he had done so. He just did. Now that they were sitting on the hill overlooking Resembool, he decided to lie back and think. He really did need to think this over, because Winry was his best friend aside from Alphonse, and he enjoyed her company a lot. That was why he had told her. That and he loved her. He wasn't sure when he had realized, whether it been there all along, or whether it was new. Whatever it was, he had told her and that was that. Why did he have to tell her now though! Why couldn't he just have waited till after he got Alphonse's body back. Then he could've stay for good. Oh well, what was done was done, and he would have to deal with the consequences.

Just as he closed his eyes, the sky decided to be unrelenting, and released a downpour. Alphonse started to stand up to look for shelter, but Ed held fast onto to his arm. Taking that as a sign of Ed wanting to stay longer, Alphonse sat back down and made no more movements.

As the rain got harder and harder, Ed slowly brought up his knee's to his face, but did not make any movements to get up. He had always hated the rain, it brought such horrible things with it. People died, horrible happening always seemed to occur on the few days it rained.

Scowling at the sky Ed opened his eyes again. Through the haze of the rain, he could see a figure in the distance. He wasn't sure who it was and didn't care. It had nothing to do with him, so why should he?

As the cloudy form drew closer the rain relented, and it was easier to distinguish who it was. It was Winry. Trudging through the rain towards them, Ed realized she was smiling. Probably because she found them again. She always did. From when they were little, up until their current age, she had always been able to fine Alphonse and himself.

The rain finally let up to a light drizzle, and a rainbow appeared. Winry was now within earshot of Ed. She did not however take advantage of this. She merely approached him and held out her hand. Behind her, a rainbow appeared, and Ed smiled taking the offered hand in his own. Maybe rain didn't bring about as many horrible events as he had originally thought.
