Complicated
Based after Ben tells his parents of his first proclamation as King of Auradon.
Belle and her husband Adam, whom she fondly called Beast, left their son to prepare for his return to school.
Once they were out of earshot of their son Belle smacked her husband's arm, he looked at her in frustration.
"What was that for?" Adam asked annoyed.
Belle rolled her eyes, "you could have at least tried to show your son some support!"
They had reached their quarters by now and Adam slammed the door behind them.
"It's a terrible mistake! The citizens are never going to show faith in him now. He's bringing the children of our biggest enemies to live amongst us. I will not support this decision," Adam said angrily.
Belle was frustrated now too, "no one showed faith in me when I came to live with you, they all told me I was crazy. Yet here I am and look at you, they all named you King. Ben is trying to find a way to right the wrongs of the villains by giving their children a chance to prove themselves. Just like I gave you a chance to prove yourself."
Adam frowned, he did not like where this was going. He had been seen as a villain when he was under the witch's spell and thanks to Belle he was able to show everyone that he wasn't the bad guy they all thought he was.
"Think about it, if you had never changed and I had turned out like you at that time, would we even have Ben? Would we be on that island? Would anyone give our son a chance in that scenario?" Belle was trying to reason with her husband but not sound worried, because those thoughts were not easy for her to think about.
Adam sighed, he knew that Belle was right but it didn't mean he was going to be okay with it.
"What happens if one of them comes after us? We're the ones that put their parents over there. They could hurt Ben despite his kindness it could get thrown back into his face," Adam explained his concerns.
"The security at the school is as strong as our own security here. Besides considering how many people that they would need to take out to even get close to getting away from the school, even with magic they'd be crazy to try it," Belle stated.
Adam shrugged, "it doesn't stop me from worrying."
"I'm worried too Adam, only I'm not going to make accusations against innocent children unless they prove that they are not innocent. I'm not going to be like our enemies and jump to conclusions before getting to know them. They are just children after all, they might be teenagers but they are children who deserve the right to be better than their parents. They deserve a chance to show that they are good," Belle explained her point of view.
"It's a complicated situation," Adam said.
"Agreed," Belle responded, "but we need to support our son. There are going to be a lot of angry citizens in Auradon if you show them that you are as displeased as they are then Ben will have no chance to prove his worth as king."
"I know. I will give them a chance but if they put one toe out of line I'm not going to hide my annoyance at the situation," Adam warned.
Belle rolled her eyes, "they aren't going to just come over here and be model citizens. Don't judge them until we meet them at the family day at the school."
"As long as Ben keeps us up to date with the situation I can agree to that. Unless he gets hurt because he trusted them," Adam compromised.
Belle smiled, "I agree with that. As if I would let them get away with hurting our son. I don't care that he is a teenager, he is still my baby."
Adam smiled.
"Now that that is sorted we should probably go and check in with Ben and make sure that he's ready to head to school tomorrow," Belle suggested.
Adam agreed and the two headed for their sons quarters.
Ben let them in and was pleased to hear that his father was going to support his decision. It was going to make his life easier at school knowing that his parents were on his side.
