She looked at the at the clock with a nervous look. It was almost time. She got up from her couch to carefully placing the magazine she had in her lap on the desk. Next to it was all scattered tissues. Keeping her head high she went into her bedroom. It was dark. After all there was only one light in the room. She reached up into the closet to pull out a bright red dress. One she had worn not the to long ago. One she doubted she would wear again.

She carefully put on the dress. She fixed her hair. She put on red lipstick. She regarded herself in the mirror. He would faint she thought smiling sadly. She put on a brown long overcoat. And she started towards the door.

She retraced out her steps from a few nights ago ignoring the bustling people around her. When she reached the bar it was not a crowded as before. There weren't as many soldiers celebrating but it was still bustling. With a sharp pain in her heart she realized why they weren't celebrating.

Putting her head down slightly she headed towards the bar. "The usual?" the bartender asked. She nodded silently taking off her coat. He placed it in front of her. She picked it up thanking him and taking a sip. She looked up at the clock. The hands just kept going around and around. Oh how she wished she stop them or turn them back

The tics of the clock grated on her mind but she ignored it. Slowly the people started to disperse leaving a empty bar with a women with a empty glass.

When the clock hit midnight she heard the bartender say "Hey darling! I am going to close here now." She nodded to him and turned to reach her jacket. Slowly she put it on and started towards the door slowly. Trying not to break down in tears before she reached outside. One thought was running in her mind.

He was late.
