A/N - This is only my second Fremione story, so please go easy on me.
DISCLAIMER: I do not own Harry Potter.
Reassure Me:
She curls deeper into the warm blankets on the bed, his bed. Well, it used to be his bed.
She started coming in here after the war; usually only if she has a nightmare, and tonight is no different.
It's the same one every time. She hears his voice stop, spins around just in time to see that wall fall on him, and as hard as she tries, as loud as she screams, she just can't get to him in time. Time and time again, she's forced to watch, tears streaking down her face, as the life fades from his eyes, but his smile remains; and every time she wakes, covered in a thin layer of cold sweat, a scream ripping its way past her lips, she finds herself here a couple minutes later.
The 'POP' of apparation surprises the almost asleep girl, but she's out of bed, wand pointed at the intruder before her eyes are even completely open.
"Whoa, Granger! Put that thing away," and even though she knew it was only a nightmare, she can't stop the sob of relief that falls from her throat when she recognizes the voice.
"Fred," she rasps, and staggers her way toward him.
She wraps her arms tightly around his waist, and he returns it, rubbing her back slowly, "shh, Hermione. I'm here; it's okay," he says, but that just seems to make her cry harder.
Pulling back slightly, she looks up into his worried eyes, "oh, Fred," she cries, burying herself into his chest again, "I'm so glad you're okay."
Confusion crosses his features, "what d'ya mean," he asks, before a look of realization covers his face, "nightmare," he questions. Hermione nods, and he goes on, "wanna talk about it?"
Nodding once again, she takes a shaky breath, and begins, "it's just... I have this dream nearly every night and it's always the same," he nods, "I hear you laughing at something Percy says, and I feel myself smiling, but you stop, and I turn just in time to see the wall fall on you," she pauses to look up at him again, and he squeezes her a little tighter. "No matter how hard I try I can't save you; and I have to stand there, with Percy, and watch you die. There's nothing I can do about it, Fred! I'm supposed to be the brightest witch of my age," she cries, tears filling her eyes again, "why can't I save you?"
Fred sighs, pulling her tighter against him, and rubbing her back, "it's okay, 'Mione, I'm okay. You did save me, you are the brightest witch of your age, of any age," he speaks, sincerity coloring his words, and as if to prove his words, that he is okay, he leans in and presses his lips softly to hers.
She grasps at him desperately, keeping his pressed against her, needing him close. As he pulls back, she opens her mouth, "stay with me?" He nods and gently tugs her to his bed. She climbs in and snuggles into his side, his warmth enveloping her, and his arm sliding around her. "I love you, Fred," she whispers into the darkness, pressing a kiss to his cheek.
Fred smiles goofily, "I love you too, 'Mione. Always," he whispers back, tightening his hold on her.
Sometimes, she still sleeps in his room at the burrow, if he's working late or something; but usually she spends her nights in their bed. With no more horrible nightmares, just the reassuring warmth of Fred's body wrapped around hers.
Reassure Me.
