I have recently rediscovered several Phantom poems that I wrote about three years ago, typed, saved, and let die in the dust-bunny-filled corners of my computer. It's time to resurrect them. I hope you enjoy!

Not my characters.

Lying there beside the well

That awful face, but who could tell?

The years have passed, yet bones remain

And now he's fled from all his pain

A little boy all alone

Never any kindness shown

No relief from all the tears

Only pain throughout the years

They kept him in a filthy cage

And beat him in disgust and rage

And though he traveled everywhere

He never found someone to care

Never caring for his heart

People marveled at his art

Still he wondered who could love

This loathsome angel from above

He saw the girl; his heart stood still

He changed her voice, increased her skill

In return, he asked for life

For her to stay; become his wife

To take him up and meet the sun

He felt his new life had begun

She feared his face – She turned away

She screamed at him she would not stay

He cried how happy she would be

But still she begged him "Let me free!"

She'd touched his heart – he loved her so!

He knew he had to let her go.

She left and he began to cry

He knew that he would surely die

The hope was gone, now only strife

And soon would come the end of life

He died alone with no one there

The world was cruel and so unfair

He lived alone in tears and shame

An ugly face; an unknown name

There was no peace; just fear and hate

For him, an undeserving fate

But now the world will let him be

His life is done – and now he's free.
