Percabeth

Annabeth sat under the willow tree at school reading her book. It was Wednesday around 10:30 in the morning, exactly when she had her free period. Annabeth always sat under that same willow tree at this exact time, every single day.

She loved the sun shinning on her tan skin and the way her golden blond hair reflected the light of the sun. It calmed her down and let her unwind from her stressful, chaotic life. But, being in the sun and reading wasn't the exact reason for her coming outside, even though she enjoyed it greatly.

She had her eye on something, someone else. Now I know what your thinking, is this going to be some silly cliché crush? To answer your question, no it is not. So please stop asking questions and let me tell the story. Thank you very much.

This person that Annabeth watched was Percy Jackson. He was in the 8th grade, just like Annabeth.

He was about her height, had black unruly hair that would have made her mother cringe, bright sea green eyes, and a grin that could light up a football stadium. He was very laid back and went wherever the wind took him. He was extremely outgoing and was never, ever afraid to speak his mind.

Annabeth wasn't afraid to speak her mind in fact she never shuts up sometimes. It's only at home when she is near her mother that she is afraid.

Percy, is always nice to everyone and genuinely cares about others. But, he continuously gets bullied by the high schoolers in the building next to ours. He never puts up a fight, even though he could. He could win if he tried but he never did. He didn't believe in violence.

He has everyone wrapped around his fingers, but never abuses his power unless standing up for a friend. He is liked by everyone and has many friends where Annabeth has none. Her mother believes that counting on people makes you weak and Annabeth is forbidden have friends or she will be punished. It's a terrible life to live.

Okay, you might be a little confused right now so let me clear things up.

Annabeth has a controlling mother who always expected better than the best from Annabeth. This made her life stressful. Her mother was rarely home, but when she was, Annabeth had to be a completely different person. A person who she never wanted to be. Her mother expected Annabeth to be an exact image of herself. An uptight, prude who had no emotions at all.

Annabeth hated it and she never could be herself with her mom watching over her shoulder. Even though Annabeth's mom was never home, she always knew what Annabeth was doing, always. She knew where she was, what time she was there, and the productivity of it. It was absolutely ridiculous.

She never thought that Percy would want to be her friend. Yes, he is friendly but Annabeth had to push him away because of her mother. She absolutely hated it so she watched him be nothing but himself from afar.

On Mondays he likes to run around with his friends and helps his friend Grover keep up because he is on crutches from some muscular disease. On Tuesdays he likes to roll down the hill and do other goofy things. On Wednesdays (today) he likes to lay on the hill across from hers and sun bathe. On Thursdays he likes to help out the environmental club with the weeds and flowers. On Fridays he likes to do random things, either by himself or with other people.

Annabeth found it fascinating that he can be so comfortable with being himself. It astounded her everyday on how open he is.

She went back to reading her book and found herself so engrossed in it that she didn't notice someone coming up to her.

Percy saw her while laying on the soft green grass and thought she looked lonely so, he got up and walked over to her. She didn't seem to notice him while he sat next to her. He read the title and didn't recognize it, it must be new he thought to himself. Then he noticed she was almost at the end of the book.

Annabeth sighed when she finished the book and leaned her head against the tree. She stiffened up automatically when she felt someone siting next to her. She looked over and saw a very handsome Percy smiling goofily at her.

"Hello!" He said brightly and Annabeth sat there in her spot astonished. She had no idea what to say.

"Is it okay that I sit here?" He asked her. All she could do was nod.

"What was that book about?" He asked her, trying to make a conversation. Instantly her eyes lit up and she opened her mouth.

"Well, it's about this girl that lives in a selfish society…" Annabeth went on and on about this book and Percy was soon asking questions about it. Soon the bell rung and they had to go to class. They said goodbye and went separate ways.

The next day Annabeth sat under the willow tree and watched Percy throw water balloons at his friends. Where on earth did he get those? She thought to herself. Wait isn't he supposed to be helping with the environmental club? Whatever.

He hit every single one of his friends and they were all wet. She smiled at them and started to laugh when Percy started to slip and slide on the wet earth.

Percy looked up to where the laughter was coming from and saw Annabeth. He smiled at her and beckoned for her to come down and join the fun. But her smile started to disappear and she forced a smile and shook her head in decline. He shrugged and continued having fun.

Annabeth remembered her mothers warning when Percy wanted her to join them. She shook her head sadly with a forced smile and watched him have more fun.

On Friday Percy came out alone and sat in his spot on his hill across from Annabeths. He saw her looking at him and a smile stretched across his face and he waved jovially. She smiled slightly back and laid down in the sun.

Percy saw Annabeth and was overjoyed. She always looked so lonely and it broke his heart a little. He wanted her to feel wanted by everyone else, not casted aside. When she laid down he stood up and ran to the garden which was at the bottom of her hill. He plucked an anthurium out of the garden because he knew it symbolized hospitality and happiness.

He ran up her hill and laid down next to her she turned her head towards his and her eyebrows scrunched together in confusion.

"Is it okay that I join you?" He asked her and she nodded slowly. She closed her eyes and felt the wind blow gently across her body and it rustled her hair. She opened one eye and saw that Percy had his eyes closed too. So she closed her eye and they never talked but they knew the other was there.

The bell soon rung and they opened there eyes. He started to get up and his hand brushed her hair for a second. "This was nice! See you soon Annabeth!" He stood up and ran to the building. She shook her head slowly and stood up.

She brushed her hair back and felt something in it. She pulled it out and saw the anthurium. She smiled slightly and knew Percy put it in there and why. But she could never let that happen.

The weekend was dreadful for Annabeth because her mother was home. Annabeth was desperately anticipating the school week.

On Monday she watched Percy and his friends run around.

On Tuesday he ran up to her and smiled before collapsing and rolling down the hill. She had to admit that it was amusing to watch.

On Wednesday she sat under her tree and hummed quietly to herself. Percy ran up the hill screaming her name. Her eyes opened wide and he plopped down next to her. "What?" She asked him and he stated telling her about how he saw this lady at the doctors office yesterday that started singing opera to a patient to calm them down.

She looked at him incredulously. "It was bizarre!" He exclaimed in a loud voice and his arms started flying everywhere with gesticulations.

"You're weird." Annabeth said to him playfully. He gasped in a dramatic tone "I am not weird I am perfectly normal! See this is my normal walk." He stood up and started strutting all over the place and Annabeth cracked up. She started calling Percy crazy names and he reacted to them by doing a new walk or dance.

Soon the bell rang and they had to go to class.

On Thursday he put his gloves on and started planting more flowers at the bottom of her hill. He looked up to her and waved and she found herself waving back.

On Friday she laid down on her hill in the sunlight and closed her eyes.

Percy saw Annabeth and decided to bring her another flower. He decided on a Gerbera which symbolized cheerfulness. He ran to her and laid down next to her. He didn't bother asking if he could lay there and she didn't ask. When the bell rung he sat up and brushed his hang along her hair again. "This was fun" he said and he got up and ran to the building. Annabeth got up and felt another flower in her hair. She pulled it out and admired it.

This routine went on for months.

Percy inviting her to come join him and his friends while she declines. Percy talking to her every Wednesday. Percy laying with her on Fridays and always putting a different symbolic flower in her hair.

Annabeth kept denying Percy was her friend even though he said it multiple times every week.

The first time he said it she was shocked and he rolled his eyes at her. "You know for a smart girl you are very oblivious." Her pride got the better of her and she starting insulting him and he insulted her.

"Your such a seaweed Brain!" She screamed and he started laughing. "Seaweed brain? How?" He asked her and she blushed a bit and said "Well you act like your brain is full of seaweed! You never think things through!" His eyes widened and he said "Oh and your any better wise girl?"

"Actually I am!" She said with her nose up in the air. Then they had a contest of wits and smarts. Annabeth won by a landslide.

Even though Percy was annoying Annabeth really valued his friendship.

It was a Friday and Annabeth and Percy laid next to each other. This Friday was different though. They never usually talk and Percy broke that.

"Hey Wise girl?" Percy said to her. She jumped because they have never spoken before.

"Yes Seaweed brain?" She asked him. She opened her eyes and turned her head towards his.

"Stand up" that was all he said to her.

They stood up and Annabeth flattened her hair down. Percy brought out a bouquet of flowers. It had one type of flower but many different colors.

Annabeth looked at it in wonder.

"These are irises. The purple one symbolizes wisdom, the blue one symbolizes hope, the yellow symbolize passion, and the white symbolizes purity. All of these remind me of you. I know about your mother and I just want you to know that I will be your friend no matter what and I know what it is like to have that kind of pressure."

Annabeth was frozen. A hundred emotions were flying through her body. She managed to take the flowers and tackle Percy in a tight hug. "Thank you." She whispered to him.

They pulled apart and for once they walked towards the building together and Annabeth thought to herself. I won't let my mother take him away from me.

Weeks passed and soon the school year was coming to an end. She came home one weekend and she saw her mom sitting on the couch with her perfect posture.

"Annabeth, I don't want you with that boy." She didn't even beat around the bush she went straight to the point.

"What! Why?" Annabeth cried out in frustration.

"Well, for one I don't like him and another, you are disobeying me. There will be punishment." She said in her steely voice.

"You will not go anywhere near him." Annabeth said in a tone she had never ever used before. Her mothers eyes widened before narrowing.

"Oh darling, I don't have to. But, I will separate you from him"

"What do you mean?" Annabeth asked in a shaky voice.

"We are going to be moving to California in 3 days. I have received a job offer. I was going to turn this down, but now I see this is exactly what you need." She stood up and walked out while leaving a gaping mouthed Annabeth behind.

On Monday Annabeth walked up to Percy and told him the news. He was heart broken. He had become very close to Annabeth this school year and he didn't want her to go.

Percy started to like Annabeth and he never hid those feelings but Annabeth was too oblivious to see them. He would never tell her he said that though, she would skin him.

So, Percy got together a bunch of the prettiest flowers that symbolized their friendship and his love for her. There were tulips, sweet peas, sunflowers, stocks, statics', snapdragons, roses, peony's, ranunculus', orchids, lilies, lilacs, hydrangeas, gladiolus', gardenias, freesias, carnations, and daisies. He had 2 big bouquets full of them.

He gave them to her the next day, the day she was leaving. She thanked him and Percy wrote a note on one of them.

Annabeth didn't see it until he was in San Fransisco. It said

Dear Annabeth,

I know how much you valued our friendship and I am going to miss you so much. I wrote down my phone number, email, and my address in case you ever want to contact me. Even though we were only friends for 8 months, I still think of you as my best friend. Never forget that. I hope I will see you again some day. Love you always wise girl.

Love, your best friend and seaweed brain

Percy

Annabeth started crying and smiled at Percy's thoughtfulness. She was going to miss him so much. From then on she kept that note with her always.

3 years later

Percy and Annabeth kept in contact through emails and texting. Percy didn't know Annabeth was back and she really wanted to surprise him.

She looked at his address on the note he gave her and decided to find it. It was a few blocks from her apartment and she felt very accomplished when she found it.

She rang there bell and Percy opened the door. He looked a lot taller in person than in the pictures he sent her.

"Annabeth?" He asked astonished.

"Hey Percy!" She said brightly.

He tackled her in a hug and spun her around. Her feet weren't on the ground and she was slightly annoyed but very amused. He carried her in the apartment while still hugging her.

"Mom look who I found!" Percy screamed. Sally came out of the kitchen to see Annabeth.

Sally and Annabeth met each other when Percy and her were video chatting one day. Sally and Annabeth got along very well and Percy was very happy.

"Percy Jackson! You put that poor girl down before I come over there and smack you with the spatula."

Percy put Annabeth down and she laughed and went over to hug Sally.

"Annabeth dear, it is so good to see you in person. Oh, dinner is almost ready please stay." Sally said.

"Yeah stay! Pretty please!" Percy gave Annabeth puppy dog eyes and she just laughed at him.

"Sure." Annabeth said and Sally walked back in the kitchen while Percy dragged Annabeth towards the living room.

They sat there and talked until dinner was ready. Then they ate and Percy excused himself and left the room.

Sally and Annabeth talked for about 20 minutes and Percy was still gone.

He walked back into the room and Sally said "There you are!" He just smiled sheepishly.

Annabeth turned towards him and shook her head in amusement. The phone rang and Sally went to get it, leaving the two teens alone.

Percy sat next to Annabeth and told her to close her eyes. She did and he brushed her hair. She opened her eyes and felt a flower in her hair. Her smile widened.

She pulled the flower out to see an anthurium flower.
