Author's note: It's my first story ever, so bare with me. I have no idea which way this story is going to go yet, so suggestions are always very welcome!
Hope you enjoy this first chapter.
Exactly a year ago today, Jane and Lisbon became husband and wife. 8 months later, they had their first baby girl, Michelle. Lisbon took a compulsory leave from the FBI, but she decided to go back as soon as possible. Jane just finished building the cabin, and turned into the best stay-home dad Lisbon had ever seen. Everything had been perfect so far, almost too perfect.
"Are you sure you're going to be fine? That she's going to be fine?" Lisbon asked, as she was getting ready to return to work.
"Yes honey, Michelle will be fine, she is in safe arms, don't worry. Try not to be late on your first day back!"
In the beginning it was hard for Jane, having a baby girl. But after a while he didn't see it as betrayal anymore, but as a second chance.
Lisbon knew there was nothing to worry about, she just wasn't sure if she was ready to leave her baby for the first time, even though she was more than ready to go back to the FBI. After they said their goodbyes, there was no turning back anymore.
When Lisbon pulled up into the parking lot of the FBI, she suddenly realised how much she missed it. She would never give up her baby girl for her work, but she loved work a lot.
Wylie was the first one she saw when she walked into the bullpen, and he was greeted with a very big hug.
"Lisbon, you don't know how good it is to have you back, really, believe me"
"I'm very happy to be back. I love them, but it's good to get away, if you know what I mean." She said, smiling.
Of course Wylie knew what she meant, they all knew how Jane could be.
Cho was never much of a hugger, but even he gave her a massive hug upon seeing her.
"It's so good to see you! How are you, how is Michelle?"
Cho still found it difficult to say her name without choking up a little, but they all figured it was the perfect way to honour Vega.
"I'm great, everyone is great, it's good to be back at work though. The first couple of weeks were extremely hard, but it's incredibly lovely now, finally been able to get some sleep!" Lisbon laughed.
"Lisbon! Long-time no see!" Abbott says as he walks up to her.
"Hey boss! Good to see you, it's been too long"
"How are you holding up? Jane not driving you insane?"
"Exactly why I desperately needed to go back to work!" Lisbon laughed.
Jane was incredible, he helped her, almost too much, when she was pregnant, and he was an amazing husband and father. But of course sometimes he could still drive Lisbon mad.
There was still no one to replace Vega, but so far they were able to handle the shortage of people. When Lisbon was on maternity leave, they found an agent to replace her, but she went back to her own team when Lisbon returned. Jane still assisted on a case when needed, mostly over the phone, which was enough.
They immediately caught a case, a fifteen minutes' drive from the office. A man in his late-thirties, stabbed, then died of blood loss. It took a few days, but the case was solved quite quickly, quite the familiar story. The wife killed the husband, after she found out he was cheating on her.
Every time something like this happened, Lisbon couldn't help but think how amazing her life was. Marrying the man she was in love with, almost from the moment she met him, and now they had a child together.
Two weeks later, when Lisbon walked into the office, all eyes turned on her, but no one was saying anything. Cho was standing by her desk.
"Okay what's up?" Lisbon asked, not sure if she wanted to hear the answer.
"Volker. He's out of prison."
And at that moment, Lisbon felt her whole world crumbling down.
