Hi all! this is my second attempt at writing Gundam 00 fanfiction. It's a weird piece, and plays heavily on implications/insinuations and "read between the lines" effects than actual content. Read the summary to understand the setting and POV.

Some little facts:
- Billy knows Sumeragi as Leesa, so that's why she's referred to as such in this piece
- Mina/Mehna, I acutally don't care, but i liked the look of Mehna better, so meh...

Disclaimer: I have no share in Gundam 00. If I did, Billy would be the stud in a threesome involving Mehna and Sumeragi.

As a scientist, Billy Katagiri is very familiar with "what if" questions. Such questions and their solutions represent new possibilities, a fundamental aspect of research, and the resulting success. However, he knows that the same "what if" question can also represent missed opportunities. Perhaps it is his scientific mind speaking, but such a question automatically associates the failure attached to those missed opportunities.

It is also his scientific mind that reminds him such logic cannot be applied in such a direct fashion when it comes to interactions between people.

Unlike research, where tests can be conducted over and over again, interactions with another person cannot be repeated multiple times to determine the most appropriate one. It would be unreasonable to treat a missed opportunity in a relationship as a failure, given the difference in the nature of the situation.

Yet, a feeling of failure plagues him whenever he ponders a certain "what if" question, regardless of its plausibility.

In fact, it would probably be wrong to describe it as a single "what if" question that plagues him. It is more like a series of "what if" questions that would have lead to a completely different outcome. What if he had managed to keep her from being scouted by Celestial Being? What if he had pressed her for more details when she showed up, unannounced, at his door? What if he had made the connection before that boy had come to take her away? What if he had stopped her from leaving, when they came back to look for her?

What if he had given her a reason to stay with him, by telling her that he loved her?

In a way, it makes him feel guilty, because it is as if he is betraying his beloved Mehna. Even though he had decided to put away his feelings for Leesa when he and Mehna married, he can't shake off the feeling that somehow, things could and would have turned out differently, had he asked the right questions and made the right connections.

Of course, when he confessed his insecurities to her, she laughed and simply said that it proved he had good taste in women, before proceeding to convince him in quite a forceful, but no less pleasurable manner as to why he hadn't made the wrong choice.

Review please (good and bad), cause I wanna know what people think about the style of the piece, and if it worked.
