It was clear that something had been bothering Shira lately. Diego could definitely tell from how the female saber acted that she had something on her mind, that troubled her greatly. It wasn't until one morning; bright and early that the problem made itself clear.
As his mate walked up to him, Diego couldn't help but notice the anxiety in her brilliant blue eyes, which was highly unusual for Shira; she was usually brimming with confidence and such sureness, that you couldn't help but notice a regal heir about her. Today, however, she seemed shrunken and defeated, like a weight was pressing on her sleek shoulders.
"Hey Kitty." Diego called, standing up and padding towards her." His mate only looked at him mournfully.
"Diego... I... There's something I have to tell you." She said, looking into his eyes for only a matter of a half a second or so before looking away. "Sure, Shira, what is it?" He asked her gently. It was so strange to see her this way, he couldn't help but take it easier on her. His mate gulped and closed her eyes, looking like she might be sick. After what felt like and eternity, she finally dropped the bomb. "I'm pregnant." Diego stared at her in shock. Pregnant? As in, cubs? He halfway hoped that she was joking; that she would start giggling any moment, and tell him it was all a joke. But instead, a tear formed in her right eye and she turned her face away in an attempt to hide it. "Hey..." Diego soothed. "Don't cry, it's okay." Shira shook her head. "No, it isn't Diego. You know it isn't. We... We aren't ready for this, are we?" She whimpered, her voice cracking.
"Well... No." The golden saber admitted. "But, we can, always make ourselves ready, right?" He said, pressing his flank against hers in hopes to soothe her. "I'm not mad, you know that. Don't you?" Shira nodded and turned her head to rest on his shoulder.
"I know... I'm just... Scared."
"You're the bravest saber I've ever met. You'll be fine."
"I'll be a terrible mother..." The white cat sighed. "What if they hate me?"
"Shira, you're gong to be THEIR mom. They'll look up to you. I promise." Her mate assured warmly, and gave her shoulder a gentle nudge. "Now, come on. You look like you're going to pass out on your feet. Some rest will do us both some good."
