Gifts

If asked to write a story of adventure and fantasy,
I could do so in my sleep
For it is something I never seem to tire of
Fictional places and fictional characters with a seed of truth are my joy.
When others only see what is before them,
I see so many other possibilities
I love to weave and weave my stories so long
And test the minds of those who would look upon,
Just a fragment of the ramble that rolls inside my head
Even I have not seen it all
These tales of make believe come so easy to my mind
But why not a heartfelt thank you to those most important to me?
It is easy to say 'thank you,'
They are two small words that carry so much.
Gratitude, love, friendship, laughs, and smiles
To simply say those words is so easy for me
But only when those they are meant for are near
When I must write 'thank you' to someone far away
I find it hard and frustrating to produce the right way
I often wish I could hug them and say all that I want
So to you who has done so much,
Thank you, thank you, and thank you again
I may outgrow some gifts and time robs me of others
And I may not remember the earliest of trinkets
What they were or what they are does not matter
Only the thoughts they carried were worth the chatter
Given or requested, small or large, remembered or not,
We give according to occasion or no occasion at all
Each one holds a special place in my heart
How can I ask you to do more?
But that is the wonder of who you are,
For I do not have to ask nor could I tell you to stop
You would not listen to me anyway
That means more than any talent ever could
If giving helps you show your love,
Then please continue to give.
I will do my best to show appreciation
It may not always be immediate
And it may not always be glamorous
But just as your gifts have made me smile,
I intend to return the favor for every mile
Thank you for every gift you've ever given me and those yet to come!
