"Ugh! I GIVE UP!" she hears her mother yell from the kitchen. I sigh as I wander into the kitchen "What's up mum?" I ask. She sighs "You know how much I love your brother, Emma. But I have changed his diapers, I've fed him and done everything he could possibly need and he just. Won't. Stop. Crying" she complains
"Here, let me try" I say as I hold Neal in my arms and rock him back and forth. Soon he hushed down and got to sleep. "There we go" I smile.
"Thanks honey. You know you have the skills of a mother. Ever thought about having another child?"
"Pfft. Two people were able to kidnap a 10 year old boy, take him through a portal to one of the most dangerous lands there is. Can you imagine a baby? No way in hell is there a chance for the saviour settling down."
That memory flashes back in my head. "Look what I got, mum!" I hear Henry say as he shows me a brand new book. "Your grandmother got you that" I say as I look at mum. "Thought you would like to read something more entertaining than pregnancy books and cradle cap" She laughs. "Thanks!" Henry says.
"Here open this one!" I say as I hand the present to Killian. "You know, this is quite the tradition Swan. You buy presents for one another, while you also expect a fat man in a red suit to fall down a chimney and provide gifts too. I mean, bloody hell there is a tree in your house!" He laughs.
I laugh back, it is kinda silly when you think about it. "I know, but it's fun! Now come on, open it!"
He nods as he unwraps the present. He opens the box to reveal a seashell. He looked at me puzzled.
"They say if you press it up against your ear, you'll be able to hear the sea. I didn't ever want you to feel like you were missing your home" I smile.
"That's a nice gesture, love but I'm already home" he says he kisses my temple. I smile, god how is it even when we are married he still gives me butterflies in my stomach?
After we unwrap the final present and everybody starts to clean up, I whisper to Killian "There's still one more". He stands up and looks around the tree. "No there isn't, David unwrapped the last one"
"I know… It isn't born yet" He'll be happy, won't he? I mean, he loves me, right…? Maybe I should have waited until later, maybe-
"Your, your pregnant?"
"Yeah.."
Suddenly there was a smile spreading on his face, wider than I'd ever seen before. "I'm going to be a father?!" I nodded, smiling too. Tear of relief formed in my eyes, and I didn't even bother trying to hold them in. Killian wiped them away as he wrapped me in his arms and kissed me repeatedly.
"Hey Emma, Killian can you help us put the wrapping paper in the- what's going on?" Mum asks
"Mum… I'm pregnant" I smiled nervously. She smiled too as put Neal down and she rushes over to embraced me. "Emma that's wonderful news!"
"Your WHAT?" I hear in the background as Dad comes into the room. "With his child?" He asks, shooting Killian a look. "David!" Mum yells.
"I'm just teasing, sweetie" He says as he joins Mum and I in the hug. "We're very happy for you both"
Henry comes in "You guys left me with all the work! And uh… why is everybody hugging?"
"Henry, your going to be a big brother"
He opens his mouth in shock that slowly turns into a grin. "Mum that's great news! I hope it's a boy!"
I smile as everybody comes into the hug. After all those days stuck in the foster system, alone on Christmas I had always hoped that I would eventually find a family and be happy. But I never imagined I would be as happy as this.
