The Cave

Dedicated to Middy, Booky, Nona, Ella and everyone else on the Fire Is Catching Forum

I watch her worry,
Every pain and groan for us both,
The intent in her eyes,
Determination in them to keep me alive,
But her presence already brings me to life,

She denies her healer's instinct,
But I see it at work,
When she feeds me, touches me, talks to me,
And when she kisses me,
I feel the strength pouring into me,

Yet she wants to get away,
To seek those that are after her way out,
Sadly, I couldn't follow her,
So she's hesitant to leave me,
But she anxiously waits for her excuse to escape,

Why does she stay,
Is it a survival tactic? Guilt?
Or is it because of her compassion towards me?
She wants to leave to save me,
But I'm fine with just her here,

Her fire isn't catching, its contagious,
And as long as I'm hooked to it she's mine,
I'll protect her as she does now,
And if she leaves her flame will cause destruction,
Not only to others but to my emotional well being,
So I keep her here, safe and sound,
As long as I'm alive she won't burn out,
And as I finalize my decision,
I watch her worry
