Author's note: This is a poem that I wrote a while back about Peter's duel with Miraz in the Prince Caspian movie. I never posted it but now I am posting it in honor of William Mosely's birthday today. Happy Birthday!

It's a tanka style poem. That means you repeat three lines at the end of each stanza. I hope you enjoy 'Triumph'! :)

Triumph

The bold challenge read:

"From Peter, the High King,

Knight of the Lion,

Requesting single-combat

With Miraz, the pretend king

A fight to the death

Fighting long and hard

Who would triumph, no one knew.

To refuse or not?

To be a coward or not?

Miraz pondered long

Of course, he chose to accept

He would conquer this "Peter"

A fight to the death

Fighting long and hard

Who would triumph, no one knew.

The day soon arrived

Steadfast Edmund by his side

Peter advanced near

Creatures and men strained to hear

The desperate fight had begun.

A fight to the death

Fighting long and hard

Who would triumph, no one knew.

Agile Peter ducked,

Miraz's well-aimed, fierce blows

Again Miraz missed

Unsteady, Peter collapsed

Peter's shield arm was battered

A fight to the death

Fighting long and hard,

Who would triumph, no one knew.

Peter was wounded

The fighters took a respite

just for three minutes

Susan embraced Peter tight

Edmund tried to remain brave

A fight to the death

Fighting long and hard

Who would triumph, no one knew.

Peter stood his ground

Edmund closed his eyes tightly

Down-ward fell Miraz

The Narnians cheered loudly

The desperate fight was over.

A fight to the death

Fighting long and hard

Who would triumph, now they knew.
