(A/N: This was supposed to be the fic for the Wicked project for 'Defying Gravity,' inspired by the lines "And if I'm flying solo, at least I'm flying free," but when I finished the story, I realized that it didn't have anything to do with the song. I just kept the title because I liked it. And I couldn't think of anything else. Enjoy!)
And If I'm Flying Solo
"Just use the alpha command," Leah insists. "If you use the alpha command to tell me to be in my own pack, I can't possibly ignore it."
"Leah, no," Jacob argues. "I thought you were happy in my pack. I don't want you to have to be alone."
"But I want to be alone," Leah says through clenched teeth. "If I have to keep phasing, I don't want to share thoughts with the rest of the pack. Please, Jacob."
Jacob knows that this is a big deal. The last time Leah used the word 'please' was probably when she was six years old. "Leah," he sighs. "You are the best beta I could have ever asked for, and don't you think you would get lonely all by yourself? If you were in your own pack, you might not even want to be around us anymore."
"Fine," Leah says. "If you're not going to help me break into my own pack, I'll find another way to do it." She phases and runs into the forest, while Jacob watches her grow farther and farther away.
When Jacob phases, he finds that he can't hear Leah's thoughts. It's possible that she's in human form, but Jake can feel an eerie emptiness in his mind, and he knows that she has made her own pack.
Quietly, Jacob follows her into the pack she created so she could be alone, knowing that someday, Leah will be happy he's there.
(A/N: The ending was so perfect in my head, but it sounds so kinky here⦠And this story defies a lot of things Stephenie Meyer said, but so does blackwater, so I don't care. That's why I'm writing fan fiction, isn't it? Well, that, and for the reviews [Hint hint]. In case that wasn't obvious enough, reviews are love!)
