The Professor Returns

Chapter One
Moriarty Returns
In writing "A Scandal in Bohemia", I began by saying that to Sherlock Holmes, Irene Adler was always the woman. Unfortunately for my friend, I am afraid that by publishing the account of our adventure, I played a great deal of fault in the adventure in which that Napoleon of Crime, Professor Moriarty, used this statement to his advantage.
It was a particularly bleak afternoon in October 1897 that my friend rushed through the doorway of our lodgings at Baker Street nearly breathless. He had left suddenly that morning after reading The Times at breakfast, and I had not seen him since.
"Watson, I must speak with you about a matter of great importance" he said sitting by the fire.
"Are you all right, Holmes?" I asked.
"I am afraid not, Watson. Something terrible has happened."
"I have not seen such horror in your eyes since you first told me of Professor Moriarty" I said.
"Moriarty. Never have I met an opponent whose abilities rivaled mine on so great a scale. I was premature in my pronouncing him dead, Watson."
"He is alive, then?"
"Yes, and he is on a personal vendetta. Do you remember Irene Adler?"
"Yes. She is the only woman to ever have beaten you in a mystery."
"Somehow, Moriarty has discovered my feelings for her, and she has been kidnapped" he replied.
"How has this happened?" I asked him, masking my realization that I was responsible for Ms. Adler's disappearance.
"Listen carefully, Watson, and I will tell you all that I know."
That's what I've got so far, so please read and review. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
