PROLOGUE

CHORUS:

Two ganglands, both alike in dignity,
In fair Verona High School where we lay our scene,
From ancient grudge break to new mutiny,
Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean.
From forth the fatal battle of these two foes
Mis-fortun'd hate kills and takes their lives,
And these misadventured piteous overthrows
Doth with the deaths, bury their gangs' strife.
The fearful passage of their death-mark'd hate,
And the continuance of their ganglands' rage,
Which, but closest friends' end, naught could remove,
Is now the two hours' traffic of our stage.
The which if you with patient ears attend,
What here shall miss, our toil shall strive to mend.
