AN: Some version of this pesky idea has been poking at me for ages now! I finally produced this. I was rather happy w/ the result! =)

Leaving

"Do you still love him?"

"Will."

"Just answer the question. Do you still love him?"

Helen flinches at the force behind his words.

"Will, what does it matter? What John and I had ended a long time ago."

She reaches out to him, but he backs away from the contact.

"I don't know if I can do this anymore, Helen."

"Will?"

"Some part of you will always love him. I could live with that. But…whatever this is between us…it's never going to last if you refuse to acknowledge the fact that you still have feelings for Druitt. It'd just be setting us both up for a fall."

Helen shakes her head in disbelief, unable to formulate a response. Her head is reeling and she feels as though the air has suddenly rushed out of her lungs.

"No, Will, please-"

"I'll be here when you figure it out."

She wants to ask him to stay with her, to come to bed; but the words stick in her throat. Helen's vision blurs as she stands staring at a closed door.

He's already gone.
