Lily Evans was nothing if not practical and dangerously curious.

Which meant that an experiment was in order.

The idea came to her seemingly out of thin air (though she could admit, if pressed, that she'd had the burning desire to see if it worked for months now). It was between classes; she was waiting in the queue to enter the Arithmancy classroom, surrounded by her usual gaggle of friends, and he was walking down the corridor with his own ragtag group of troublemakers.

The effects of her experiment were nearly instantaneous.

He glanced over to look at her, like he did every time. This time, however, Lily met his eyes and gave her most brilliant smile.

James' overeager return smile quickly met the stone floor in a flurry of robes and books. Lily laughed and laughed and Sirius insisted on a high-five for what he was convinced was an impeccably timed prank.
