It's brief. It's pointless. Blaming the fact that I'm on medicine that makes sleeping and other logical things highly illogical and then I added Return of the Jedi to the mix so while trying to sleep tonight I ended up mentally writing this moment about fifty times instead.
Disclaimer: I own nothing.
The flash-bang that went off just inches in front of his beautiful blue eyes has him temporarily blinded and when she finds him he's pawing his way along the cement wall just trying to find an exit, find his way to her. She pauses for a moment, just for a second, in order to take him in and he appears to be otherwise unharmed which allows her to breathe a sigh of relief before a small grin forms across her face, she has an opportunity here – a chance to brighten up their horrible day. Quietly, she makes her way across the room before gently kneeling in front of him and curling her hand in the fabric of his shirt.
He gasps and jerks back from the touch ever so slightly. "Who are you?"
"Someone who loves you," she tells him, her voice quiet and rough in the smoky room.
She watches his face unfold into a bright smile as he recognizes her touch, recognizes what she just pulled on him. He's caught her bait. Hook. Line. Sinker. "Kate."
"Hi Castle," she breathes against his mouth before she kisses him. There's no ominous laughter in the background, nothing to pull them away from the moment, and so they stay there just tangled together until she knows that she needs to get him off the cold cement floor and to a doctor just to make sure the grenade didn't do any real harm. She needs to make sure the boys caught the bastards who did this on their way out. So she leaves him with a lingering kiss and a promise, "I love you."
"I know."
