Rebirth.

AN: Mornin' all! This story contains massive spoilers, although not written explicitly, for the end of Gravity Rush 2. Please bear this in mind! I've often thought about how the Creators were given such a crap deal after their…machinations at the end of the game. I'm hoping these chapters will provide possible inspiration for others to use these strong characters, despite what happened. The following's my take on a possible afterlife, if you were, for more story ideas. The timeline's set to just about a week or two after the defeat of the final boss in GR2. Big shout out to fellow author 'Fictional Architect' for taking the time to proof read! Love ya man! Next chapter'll hopefully be up by the weekend. Please enjoy!

Chapter One: The World Creator.

The gentleman sat on the park bench, riffling through an opened bag of bird seed. He had no recollection of the events prior to a week or so ago, only knowing the tranquillity of feeding the pigeons throughout the days. He tossed a handful of feed out in front of him.

"Here, birds, come and eat," he murmured. The fountain ahead of him hummed, its waters softly shimmering against the sunlight. His bag of seed was fast becoming empty.

'I only know my name...how peculiar.'

The minutes felt like hours. He would come to this same bench, alongside the same fountain, every day. Though he was strong of mind, he could not find solace in his past. The very idea of not knowing slowly eroded his mood, no matter how many times he tried to remember. Alongside the repetitive scene, his mind once more began to wander through the same thoughts.

'Just who am I…?'

A loud caw, akin to a crow, forced him back to reality. At his feet stood a strange, star-specked bird, unlike anything he had ever seen before. He slowly leant forward, hoping he would not cause it any alarm. He stared at it, watching as it arbitrarily pecked at the floor every so often. He could not help but smile.

'I guess we're the same, you and I. Just travelling where the wind takes us, eh?'

He glanced upwards, taking in the scenery. The stall in the distance was always popular. The queue for its cured meats was more often than not a good few people strong, no matter the time of day. That was when he noticed her.

He felt that there was something odd about her. Her hair was tinged on its edges a sharp red, with the rest a deep, dark ocean of black. Shortly after buying herself something, she turned and approached the fountain, looking back and forth.

'I feel as though I've seen her before...but...hold on, maybe she's lost something?'

She came nearer, scouring the floor. He raised an eyebrow, not once taking his eyes off of her. Eventually she came to a halt, staring directly at the starry creature at his feet. Their eyes briefly met as she came closer.

"That's where you were, Xii. Don't run off on me," she commanded, taking a bite from her snack. She looked to the man sitting on the bench. "Sorry if he's causing you trouble. He loves his food."

"Oh, it's nothing. If anything I enjoyed the company," he replied, smiling gently at the pair. A brief silence followed. The woman sat next to him on the bench after a moment, her eyes uncomfortably fixed on him. He began to feel a little awkward, budging slightly along the bench. "...So, uh, can I help you at all?"

The air was tense. This strange woman, seemingly from nowhere, was taking an unusual interest in him. It was not helped by the empty quietness between them that followed. She swallowed her mouthful.

"Haven't I seen you somewhere before?" She plainly asked. He merely blinked in response. Although he felt otherwise, he knew, deep down, that there was no link. At least not to his knowledge.

"I can't say I remember you," his eyes once more noting the length of her hair, "and believe me, I'm pretty sure I'd remember."

She stared nonchalantly. Maybe he said something wrong, or caused offence? There was no going back now.

"Uh, what I meant to say was I don't think so."

The only movement present was the rhythmic chewing of her mouth. She was almost finished with her snack.

"Well, either way, I'm Raven," she rested against the backrest of the bench. "I'm usually around here a lot, the food is amazing."

To actually make a connection filled his heart with a sudden sense of joy. To know that there was someone out there willing to listen to and acknowledge his presence made him smile from ear to ear. He moved his hand towards her, shaking hers soon after.

"It's nice to meet you, Raven. I'm Gade."

The handshake grew still, Raven's eyes once more staring at him. Her eyebrow was raised.

"Gade…?" She paused. There was no way she could have possibly known that name. There were a lot of people in the city, after all, maybe she was just confusing it with another that she may have met on her travels? Either way, she was not convinced. She shook her head. "...I've heard that name before."

His interest piqued. Not only had he made an acquaintance, but she may also know something of who he once was. His heart started to beat faster.

"You have? Please, tell me anything you know," he pleaded with his attention solely on her. "I don't remember a thing from the past. To tell the truth, I'm scared."

Raven closed her eyes for a moment. She thought back to the events that had transpired in her past. Try as she might, she could not pinpoint exactly where she may have found him before. One thing was certain though. She had definitely seen him before.

"I can't say for sure. I can, however sympathise with you. I don't remember where I grew up, or where I came from, either," her tone lowered as she recalled what was left of her past. The empty void in her mind from beyond a few years ago gnawed at her occasionally. She turned to face Gade. "But, like it or not, we're here now."

He noticed the sincerity on her face. He could tell she was not lying, or trying to make him feel better for the sake of it. For a brief moment he felt a genuine sense of care for her. He sighed heavily.

"You're right," he conceded, rummaging once more through the bag of seed in his hand. "It's all about what we can do now, I suppose."

She nodded. Glancing to the fountain ahead, she stood up and stretched. The speckled crow from earlier hopped towards her.

"I've got my patrols to carry on with now," she looked over towards him with a faint smile. "I'll come by to see you, maybe we can chat some more. Take care, Gade."

He waved towards her. What a strange day, he thought. At first he felt uneasy, not knowing his place in the world. Then, with a simple conversation, the cage he felt trapped within had been destroyed, a fresh sense of purpose filling the void in his heart.

"I will, and I look forward to seeing you again," he watched as she flew into the sky with Xii in tow, disappearing into the distance over the skyline. He pawed once more at the bag in his hands.

'Thank you, Raven.'

Dusk had begun to settle over the horizon. After a long sigh, Gade rose from the bench, eager to make his way to the dwelling which he called home. As he turned, however, a voice caught his attention.

"...Gade…? Is it really you?"

He could not believe it. Two people in one day? This one also seemed to know who he was. He pivoted, seeing an older lady with her brow furrowed in worry.

"Excuse me, my dear, but you are…?" He did not recognise her, yet her reaction proved to be quite a shock. She grabbed his arm with a vice-like grip.

"I don't believe it, it's really you," she leered at him. He began to sweat. "I've been looking for years, you know. You don't even remember your own wife?"

The world came to a halt. He could not believe what was happening.

'...Wife!?'

"You're coming home with me, right now. Where have you been all this time?" Her questions seemingly went on deaf ears. She dragged him through a few streets, seemingly in an indiscernible direction. He felt a little uneasy but allowed her to take the lead nonetheless. "You've missed out on so much. You're a grandfather now, you know!"

AN: You know that part of the first GR game just after you meet Gade for the first time, there's a gossip/chat NPC who remarks that her husband isn't around or something similar, and that he looks just like him? Oh yeah~ Thanks for reading!
