A Nautilus Shell

There were people in the sanctuary, people made out of stone and wood. Aang met their still, carved eyes, and knew them immediately. It wasn't the sharp, striking sort of immediately, it was a soft, enveloping sort of immediately, as it always was, warm and gentle. He made his way across the floor between the statues, and, as he looked up, up at the circles and spirals of people, thought, "I know you. And you. And you."

And he did. He knew them, knew them as if they were his own blood, welling up from the marrow of his bones.
