(So these are just two one shots that came to me one day and wouldn't leave me alone until I wrote them down. I hope you enjoy though I'm sorry if I wrote Bucky out of character or if my OC Anabela isn't very good. I had fun writing this though so I hope some of you do like it. Have a good one! I own nothing but my OC.)
...
"No way!"
"Way! But Steve was more interested in the army recruitment flyers anyway so it all worked out." Bucky smirked, snaking his flesh arm around Bela's waist as they walked from the Diner to where he had parked the car.
Bela gave him a look he knew too well which was a mixture of a reprimand and amusement. "Still wasn't very nice of you." She moved to take his hand which was currently at her waist.
Bucky shrugged and shifted to interlock his fingers with hers. "Well you wanted to know the "pre-Winter Soldier" dirt, Doll. Now it's your turn. What's something "pre-S.H.I.E.L.D." I don't know about you?" He grinned, enjoying the feel of her fingers in his as they got closer to the car.
God, her hand always feels so perfect in mine. Even with the little scars in her palm. Even when I hold it in my metal one...how did I ever get so lucky to have her? Bucky wondered, getting lost in Bela's light brown eyes which were dancing with laughter currently.
Suddenly, the light disappeared from her eyes and she froze on the sidewalk staring at something directly ahead of her with a terrified look on her face.
Frowning at her sudden change in demeanor, Bucky turned to see what she was looking at and felt his own feet glue themselves to the concrete below.
There, piling out of a car he didn't remember even hearing pull up at the curb were four or five maybe even six men wearing a uniform that he recognized with chilling dread.
No!...I thought they were all dead. It's been what seventy plus years since...What the h*** are they doing here? Bucky felt himself already moving into action, pushing Bela slightly behind him as he anticipated a hostile encounter.
"Buck, what's going on? Why are they here?" Bela asked, the worry and fear in her voice making Bucky's chest clench, but he glanced at her reassuringly.
"It's going to be okay Bela. Just stay behind me." He started to smile when suddenly the men who just a second ago had been approaching from his front were behind him and two of them grabbed Bela, twisting her arms behind her back before forcing her to the ground.
"Hey! Get off of her!" Bucky screamed seeing nothing but red as he charged at the thugs.
Before he could make a single move to get them off of Bela however, a third man cocked a pistol and pointed it at her head, making him freeze in place.
"Your choice Mr. Barnes. Come back with us, become the super soldier you once were again and help us to complete the mission...or we kill her." A fourth man stepped calmly out from an alley on the other side of the sidewalk, smoking a cigar.
Bucky recognized him as the Swiss Doctor from Hydra who had originally overseen his torture back in World War II and began his terrible transformation from Sergeant James Buchanan Barnes into the heartless Winter Soldier.
"No..." He backed away from him, feeling his blood run cold at the evil sneer in the older man's eyes.
"You're not real. That was like seventy years ago! There's no way you're still alive!" He was screaming by the end.
The Doctor only smirked at the horror and confusion in Bucky's face. "Wrong answer, Mr. Barnes." He sneered, biting down on his cigar just as a gunshot went off.
Whirling around at the terrible sound, Bucky felt what color was left in his complexion drain completely from his face when saw Bela still lying on the sidewalk, but with a large puddle of blood pooling around her head and shoulders.
As a bestial cry ripped through his throat, Bucky charged at the men who were still holding Bela's lifeless form, knocking the one who was still holding the gun flat on his back.
Seeing the other two attempting to ambush him through his peripherals, Bucky lashed out with his legs, kicking one in the gut and the other in the soft spot, sending both to the ground.
When neither got up again, Bucky refocused his attention on the man currently pinned under his weight, digging his fingernails into the soft skin of his neck while allowing the rest of his hands to squeeze the delicate blood vessels that were buried under the flesh as hard as he possibly could.
When the shooter struggled and gasped for air underneath him, freeing one arm and grabbing his flesh arm with it, Bucky started to tighten his grip even more when he spoke.
"Bucky!" He pleaded as blood began to appear from the puncture wounds Bucky was inflicting on him. "Bucky please!..."
Bucky's glare hardened at his pleas. "How dare you call me that?" He hissed, leaning forward to try to apply more pressure when the man cried out again.
This time, however it wasn't his in his own voice.
"Bucky!...Bucky please Honey! You're hurting me!" Tears began to fall down his cheeks and Bucky froze, hearing Bela's voice coming from his mouth.
"Bucky! Wake up!...Wake up Bucky! Please!" The man continued to plead in Bela's voice as a drop of blood dripped onto the six tentacled skull patch on his shirt.
Terrified and confused to hear his dead Lover's voice coming from the man who had killed her, Bucky felt his grip involuntarily relax on the shooter.
Taking advantage of his faltering movement, the man lashed up under him and nailed him directly under the jaw, causing him to cry out...and wake up back in his bedroom, the sheets tangled around him, and his hands...correction his one hand was gripped around-
"OH GOD!" Bucky panicked, instantly yanking his only hand away the second he saw where it was. "Oh God! Oh God! Oh God!..." Bela let out a loud gasp as the air rushed back into her lungs giving way to a fit of coughing.
"Bela?" Bucky whispered tentatively, fumbling for the bedside lamp and knocking over his prosthetic in the attempt as Bela's coughs slowly subsided and she turned to look at him.
"Bucky..."
"Are you-are you all right? Did I...Oh God! Bels!" Bucky cut himself off as the light fell over them revealing visible fingerprint marks on Bela's neck.
Horror washed over his face as he realized what he had done to the woman he loved and he recoiled as if someone had prodded with him with a hot iron.
Before he could get too far on the other side of the bed, Bela reached out and stopped him with a hand to his amputated shoulder.
"No Buck! It's okay! I'm okay Baby! Really!" She tried to reassure him, but Bucky was too upset to listen.
"You are the farthest thing from okay! I'm a monster! I-I almost killed the person I love most! I...I don't deserve you anymore Bela!" The sobs ripped through his body as he turned away, ripping his fingers through his hair and face.
Then he felt the gentle touch of Bela's cheek against the side of his neck and his cries stilled for a moment.
"Bucky...Bucky Love, please look at me and listen. You're not a monster, you hear me? You were just having a bad nightmare and it made you react. This is hardly the first time something like this happened and I know you'd never hurt me on purpose." Bela pleaded, stroking his shoulder with her fingers as she talked and hoping her husband would calm soon.
Bucky shook his head. "But I still hurt you. Bela I was-!...What if I had actually...?" He started, but didn't finish as the thought alone was enough to make him start hyperventilating again.
Bela frowned and snuggled up closer to him, moving one arm to wrap around his chest. "Buck, I promise I'm okay. I've dealt with much worse on some of my missions. Trust me. I used to work for S.H.I.E.L.D. remember?" She asked, chuckling a bit.
Bucky didn't laugh with her though and it made the smile fall from Bela's face. "Baby please stop hiding from me?" She pleaded, cuddling her head into the crook of his neck and pressing a series of little kisses along his stubbly jaw line.
"I swear I'm okay and I'm not upset with you."
Finally Bucky lifted his head from his hands, but he still did not turn to look at her, afraid if he did, he would see the marks where his fingers had been on his wife's neck.
"I don't see how you're so calm right now, Bela. Like you said, this is hardly the first time you got hurt because I can't control my own god**** mind and this time you almost died!...You should be packing up my stuff and kicking me out for what I almost did to you! You deserve so much better than this." He sniffed as another tear slid down his cheek.
Bela responded by putting her hand firmly on his opposite cheek and turning him to face her.
"I'm not kicking you out and I never will because I love you...and I know you. I know the real you and I know that whatever Hydra turned you into all those years ago isn't who you really are." She said softly yet firmly, not looking away from Bucky's moist, red rimmed eyes as she spoke.
"You're a good man Bucky. I know that. You took care of me after I lost my Dad, and I want to always be here to take care of you and make you feel better every time you have another episode like this. I've done it since we met and I'll do it until you don't need me to anymore. It's what I promised when I married you after all." She chuckled again, stroking his cheek. This time she was rewarded by a barely visible slight smile that curled the right side of Bucky's face.
"Maybe, but I doubt any of the training you recieved as an agent covered how to get out of a choke hold in your sleep." He responded in a half joking and mostly serious tone.
Bela shrugged. "No, but I once almost got choked out by a guy that jumped me from behind while I was focused on my main target. I got out of it the same way I got you to let go of me except I clocked him with a gun so count your blessings Love." She smirked, moving her hand till she was touching the spot under Bucky's chin where she had hit him to wake him up from his nightmare.
Bucky smiled wider at her touch and turned his head to kiss her palm, looking up afterwards to gaze on Bela's eyes and the way they were still so warm, so caring and understanding even after she just woke up in the most horrifying way ever.
Just the way they were in his dream before it turned into a nightmare except better.
"I still don't think I deserve to keep you." He admitted, taking her hand from his face and holding it in both hands close to his chest as he finally allowed his gaze to fall back on her neck.
Bela responded by leaning forward and planting a soft affectionate kiss on his forehead. "Do you love me, Bucky?" She asked softly, bending to try to meet his eyes.
Unable to help himself Bucky smiled and nodded. "Of course." Bela smiled back.
"Then come on." She began scooting back across the bed, attempting to pull Bucky back with her.
With some reluctance, Bucky allowed her to bring him back to the bed, feeling his body tense up at the thought of going back to sleep again as he lay back down on the mattress. Flipping off the light, Bela cuddled up against his back and repeatedly began rubbing her hand soothingly from his shoulder to the small of his back.
"Bela-."
"Shhh..." Bela interrupted when he tried to speak. Leaning forward a little, she planted some kisses on the back of his neck. "Just try to relax."
Bucky took a deep breath. "Bela, will you talk to me about something please? Something that will make me forget...what I did? What happened..." He asked hesitantly as the back rubs slowly began to ease the tension in his body.
A slight smile appeared on Bela's face at his request. "Sure Honey. What should we talk about?" She asked in a soft whisper, continuing her ministrations.
Bucky thought for a moment. "How about the first time I got you to go on a date with me?" He asked, a slow smirk appearing on his face.
Hearing the smugness in his voice, Bela rolled her eyes. "You mean when I found you leaned up against my car and you wouldn't get out of the way until I agreed to one date?" She asked with a grin.
Bucky chuckled. "Yeah, it was a pretty good plan of attack if I do say so myself." He snickered, turning a bit to look at Bela again even though it was too dark to see anything clearly.
Bela shook her head. "You know, I still can't believe you asked for another date after I told you I who I really was." She sighed, laying her cheek in the spot between Bucky's shoulder blades as she continued to rub his back.
Bucky sighed and turned over carefully so that he was facing his wife. "Well if I may borrow from what you told me not too long ago Doll, you are no more your Father than the Winter Soldier is really me." He smiled and reached a hand to stroke her long bed-mussed hair from her face.
"Besides I think I had my suspicions, since you know, you only told me your last name during our first date, Miss Just Bela." His smile widened into a soft smirk.
Feeling her cheeks grow warm at the affection shining underneath the teasing in her husband's eyes, Bela averted her gaze and laid her head against Bucky's chest, feeling the warmth and softness of his tank top against her cheek.
"Well...can you blame me? After I found out what my Dad had really been doing...who he really was? I couldn't bear to associate myself with him anymore in any way." She murmured sighing as she listened to the even sound of her husband's heart beats.
"Especially not after he forced me to watch while he screwed with your mind." She clenched her jaw, slightly digging her fingers into Bucky's skin.
Bucky gently used his only hand to lift her face from his shirt.
"I don't blame you for any of that, Sweetheart. I never did." He murmured, stroking her bangs from her face before leaning forward and capturing her lips with his. Smiling, Bela returned the kiss, running her her own hand through his hair until Bucky pulled away and laid down scooting lower on the mattress until his head was on her chest.
"And except for Steve, I don't know anyone who believes in me as much as you do." Bucky murmured, smiling as he lightly inhaled the soft scent that came off the slightly exposed skin on her collar bone.
Smiling too, Bela carefully laid her cheek against his forehead and wrapped her arm around his shoulder. "I'll always believe in you Bucky." She whispered.
With a sigh, Bucky reached with his only hand to gently stroke the spot on her neck where he knew his fingerprints still lingered. "Thank you Anabela." He said softly, studying the design on his wife's pajama shirt for a moment as she stifled a yawn.
"Don't mention it." She reached with her free hand to try to pull the covers back over them again when Bucky suddenly stiffened.
"Bela?" Bucky spoke again just as Bela was about to snuggle down to sleep next to him.
"Yeah Buck?"
"Do you remember where I took you on our first date?" He asked, biting down on his lower lip as he looked up to meet Bela's eyes.
Hearing the soft nervousness in his tone, Bela opened her eyes to meet his gaze again and thought for a moment.
"Let's see...it was at the Jazz Club on 40th St. Do you have any idea how mortified I was when you parked my car in front of that place, Sergeant Barnes?" She grinned slightly though her stomach still fluttered slightly when she recalled that moment.
Bucky chuckled at her usage of his old military rank.
"What do you mean? The way I remember it, we had a great time there." Bucky responded with a shrug. "Great food, awesome drinks, not to mention the music..." He stifled a yawn.
Bela shrugged. "Yeah we did, but...I'd never danced before then and when you just pulled me out onto the floor I just...Honestly the thought of having to dance still scares me to death." She murmured, licking her lips as she recalled the way Bucky had practically yanked her out onto the dance floor upon hearing a song he liked, despite her obvious initial horror at the idea.
Bucky lifted his head slightly so he was looking her in the eyes. "But you danced beautifully." He retorted, finally smiling again as he stared deep into Bela's tired eyes.
Bela shook her head. "You know very well I did not, Love. I stepped on your feet like every other step I took that night. Even during the slow song." She muttered though she could not help smiling back at him.
Bucky shook his head. "Well you were a natural once I showed you how it was done. Remember? It's still the best dance I've ever had, Doll." He whispered into Bela's ear before laying his head back down on her shoulder.
Bela good humoredly rolled her eyes as Bucky snuggled up to her. "You danced with me standing on your toes like I was a little girl." She remembered fondly. Bucky grinned at her. "That's right I did."
"You want to know a secret, Honey?" Bela asked, pushing her hair from her face.
"Hmm? What?" Bucky mumbled, closing his eyes as Bela leaned towards his ear.
"It's my favorite dance too." She whispered, feeling a warmth spread through her as Bucky's smile widened in response.
Feeling another yawn push its way up her throat, Bela laid her head carefully against Bucky's before shutting her eyes again.
"I love you Bucky." She whispered, listening to his breathing even out as she felt his hand gently rub her back. "So much."
Bucky responded with a soft grunt. "I love you more." He murmured, not opening his eyes.
"Bucky?" Bela murmured back, stroking his hair to ease him into a restful state.
"Mm-hm?" Bucky mumbled.
"I think we should try going dancing again sometime. Maybe with Steve and Sharon this time to make it a double date? That way I won't be the only one with two left feet." She joked, chuckling a bit as she opened her eyes to get her husband's reaction.
When she saw that Bucky's eyes were still closed and his hand relaxed completely on her back, she sighed and closed her eyes again, dropping a light kiss to his forehead before snuggling down against him.
Goodnight Buck.
